Working on a 98 xlt 600. The clutch squeels slightly at an idle, and tends to creep ever so slightly. I was told to install a shim in it. Should there be something else I should check first. Brand new polaris and extreme belt and have both did this.

TIA

check your belt deflection. i bet the belt is riding on the hub of the drive clutch. easy way tell is let it idle at 3000 rpm for five minutes, shut it down and remove the belt. look at the belt where it was sitting on the primary clutch. if the inside cogs are shiny your belt deflection is to tight. if it is shiny on the sides, then your primary clutch needs a shim. my bet is that your belt deflection is to tight. to loosen it, adjust the plate on the driven clutch one number clockwise. for best performance, run belt delfection as tight as you can without it dragging, no squeek or creep.
