A buddy has a 95 xcr 600, it won't build temp into the running board heat exchangers but it is warm in the rear. the engine at one time was overheated big time. I thought it was the pressure cap knowing that from experences with my 92 650. It does'nt even build pressure to spit back into the overflow bottle. I'am thinking cause it got so hot something might have happened to the water pump drive belt. He said it the orignal belt Any thoughts, I have yet to look at it yet.

My first thought would be an air-locked system. Warm in the rear? Only has coolers on the running boards and front of tunnel. If memory serves correctly, you should be able to somewhat tell belt condition or tension from outlet side of pump behind housing, before taking it off. But, best off to pull housing off and check pump bearings as well.
