My friend has a 1996 XCR 600 and he is rebuilding the top end, and well if he's rebuilding it he mine as well put somthn better under there than what was there. So he is wondering if he could put XCR 800 top end on it? :dunno:

Any one ever done it or heard of it being done?

680 ultra cylinders fit on the 600 reed valve crankcase, not sure about the 800 xcr cylinders, but I'd guess no, stroke is probably different

I have a Big bore Kit I do for those engines. You can have an 800 or go as big as a 900 if it is a reed case engine. Prices depend on what you have done
email me for more info
PS This is using your cylinders

To avoid confusion, you should know that if the sled is a white wedge body with a monblock triple and originally equipped with single pipes, it is a '96 600 XCR.

If it is a beautiful metallic deep blue, on a twin headlight aggressive body with a three cylinder reed valve factory triple piped engine, it is a '96 600 XCR SP.

The '99-03 XCR 800 motor has cylinders with VES, and the part book lists a different crankcase. The '96 thru '98 800 triple triple was called an 800 Storm and see post below for reed valve triple crankcase where used info.

Not correct, the 96 600XCR SP uses the same case as the ultra, the 98 xcr700 and later xcr7/800 is also based on the ultra lower end.

I was wrong, it is more complicated than I remembered.

3085063 this has the belt driven water pump, and is very different from the others below. It is used on
'95 Storm
It substitutes up to. 3085306
'96 Storm
'97 Storm
'98 Storm

3085239 is used on (has oil bath water pump gear drive)
'96 Ultra all were single piped
'96 600 XCR SP

3085449 is used on
'97 Ultra (single pipe)
'97 600 XCR

3085511 is used on
'97 Ultra SPX (triple pipe)
'98 700 XCR
It substitutes up to: 3085575
'98 Ultra (single pipe)
'98 600 XCR

3086111 is used under the VES cylinders:
'99 700 XCR
'99 800 XCR
'00 800 XCR
'01 800 XCR
'02 800 XCR

These motors all had digital igniton, but did you have to change the CDI box or flywheel/stator to get the right ignition curve for the VES?

I am runnig it with a 97 spx ign. about .050 advanced. Second time down the 1/4 ran a [email protected] Sled and driver weight of 810lbs. (I am not a small guy) I belive it will get down in the 10.30 to 10.40 range at that weight. Only one race left this year so it will most likley happen next year. I also had a 900cc ultra motor from HTG Great motor for race or trail. Made 183hp in trail form.
