Hi All,

Looking for some input on towing this massive trailer I got a deal and a half on with my 1/2 ton 2017 F150. 2.7 Ecoboost, extended cab and truck currently has a Fox 2.0 leveling kit. Truck sagged quite a bit when pulling it home (empty).... I'm thinking I will need to take the leveling kit out to regain the factory "rake"...

Also was curious as to if other 1/2 ton trucks in this group are pulling similar trailer sizes and if they are using a weight distribution hitch or airbags, etc.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

No problem then. Might need a weight distribution hitch if there's too much tongue weight. Definitely helps with tail wagging on windy days.
Isn't the 2.7 rated at 9000 lbs?
I assume electric brakes on the trailer.
Go through everything this summer, brakes wiring, wheel bearings, hinges, spare tire etc. You'll have a great setup for the new season.
Looks great!

Thanks!! Yes truck can tow around 7500 pounds... so this shouldn't be an issue. Yes electric brakes on trailer (they need to be looked at) as some aren't functioning properly.... but yeah that was the plan. Not like I have to tow them far... maybe 2.5 hours at MOST in the winter from the cabin to the UP somewhere.. hopefully we can figure out the right way to distribute the load in the trailer.

get yourself a weight safe Hitch, it has a built in scale to tell you what the tongue weight is and allows you to adjust to have a level trailer
after that, maybe try stopping in a GOOD RV center and talk to them about GOOD air bags, and I would make sure you stet up in some GOOD high load rated tires!

I have the same trailer but tow with a 3/4 ton. I always load the sleds front to back and tongue weight is not a problem. The biggest problem you will find is wind. That is alot of surface to be blown around. As others have suggested a good set of tires will help this dramatically. Most likely your brakes are shot from the salt just buy new brake sets and install. Depending on how often you use the trailer will determine the brake jobs. I've had to do mine after 4 years.

This my setup. 1500 Sierra with airlift bags. 7x27 stealth. This picture is loaded with 4 sleds and all the gear, oil, spare tire, two up seats, etc. I run 30 lbs of air in the bags. Pulls awesome, no sway. I can run 75 mph no problem. Highly recommend the bags.

So far only had 2 sleds in it. No issues with acceleration getting up to any sort of speed. I always have some pedal left. I'm really impressed by this little 2.7 TT so far. Leaning towards getting airbags in order to level out the rear of the truck, as it squats quite a bit due to the leveling kit... but I'm liking the set up so far.

We have a 29' we tow with our 3.5 Ecoboost F150. Added Firestone Airbags, switched the lame P-Metric Factory Tires and put on some Cooper Discoverer AT3 LT tires. No issues what so ever power wise with the truck but will 100% agree it's a handful on windy days, but I'm smart enough to plan properly and alternate routes and travel times if foul weather comes into play. Our trailer is only 4 years old and we're on our second set of brakes on all four axles. The salt surely beats the heck out of the brake plates/drums as well as the structure of the trailer itself. We've also upgraded the tires on the trailer to a higher rating than what came from the factory.

Without Mods to the tongue of the trailer, there really isn't a weight distribution hitch setup for single pole tongue trailers. While my 2015 F150 had no sag on the rear of the truck with the trailer hooked up, my current 2018 did, which is why we added the air bags. One thing I'd highly suggest is looking into an Electronic Sway Control System for the trailer. While each of our F150's had/have the Factory Trailer Sway Control, having the Sway Control installed ON the trailer is a better setup. On Ford's Factory Sway Control, it applies the brakes on the truck, but what one really wants for safer towing is the trailer brakes applied in the event of sway. The onboard Electronic Trailer Sway Controls do just that.

Safe travels on the highways and Safe riding on the trails my friends! A tad early, but Think Snow!!

Beautiful trailer setup!! Funny now I actually just got done installing the Firestone Airbags to my truck last Sunday. Only had the trailer hauled around on short 15 minute trips here and there this week but real test will come tomorrow as I have to pull it back up to the cottage. Looking forward to the test, so far around home here the truck handles the trailer much better.

I'd agree with the wind though, hard to handle at 70 with a 15-20mph wind gusts...

So far, I love the airbags. Zero issues thus far.

Glad you like the airbags and can feel the difference. We're heading up to Carter this evening for some UTV'ing this weekend. Truck stays home as we'll use our mobile cottage (motorhome) to tow the trailer up. Have a safe trip up to your place and looking forward to an update here from you after you get back.

Too funny! :D We love that entire area. From Mountain on up to Wabeno. Many times we consider selling the motorhome and finding a place, most likely over by you in Townsend, Lakewood or Carter area. Having the motorhome gives us flexibility for the time being as we try to get a few longer travel trips in summer, though most of our weekend trips are in Carter as the Wife enjoys the casino. She'll be playing the machines at night while I'll usually make a little campfire and empty the beer cooler. 🍺 Small world for sure!

For the record, Homebase is in Hartland. Workplace is Hartford.

That's too funny! Yeah we love it up there! Love snowmobiling right from the garage for the most part besides a few trips to the UP. Home for us is West Bend, so not too far apart! If you see a big red trailer this weekend its probably me haha.
