I want to know what is the best way of tearing down this motor is it is a 98600 zr efi. Can i just pull the cylinders over the pistons with out having to take the head off. then how does the piston come off of the crank rod? and what all do i need besides rings and a piston? Thanks guys all the help is great :got_nx:

Why don't you want to take the head off?
There are c clips on each side of the piston. take one off, push the piston pin out and the piston comes off.

You'll need at a minimum pistons, rings and base gaskets. You'll have to pull it apart to inspect, maybe will need a cylinder.

More importantly, why was one side low on compression? Did it go lean from an air leak? Something else? No sense throwing a new top end in it if you don't fix what caused it.
