I just got my sled back from the shop(s) and still in the process of putting parts on, but here it is so far.

DONE:
-Engine ported and heads were machined and polished. (courteously of AAEN)
-Aaen pipe and silencer (sounds great)
-Carbon Tech reeds
-Completely Jetted (all 3 jets) for -20 degrees with a Tempa-flo.
-Custom clutch setup from Goodwin Performance. This is NOT a kit! Shifting feels extremely strong and smooth, backshift is incredible, and reverse is instantaneous with little engine bog.
-REM and Microblue finished gearing/bearings.
-EGT Gauge
-Boss highrise hardtail seat
-Various color changes.

In the works still:
-Microblue engine finish. Going to have the crank, rods, wrist pins, sleeves, pistons, rings, crank case, and bearings REM and coated.
-Smoke Lexan panels from BRTech
-Havent completely decide on shocks, looking for light weight (Fox floats, maybe pro Xs) suggestions?
-ripsaw 1.25 or intense 1.5 havent decided here either. (ripsaw 1.5 wont work without driver change)
-Carbon fiber wheels and if I'm lucky A-arms
-SLP high-flow intake (I need the panels)

The engine is not done nor have I had a chance to ride it yet (well, there is a few ruts in the grass now, actually, the back yard looks like shit). As you can see in the pics, there is no snow and its 40 outside right now. Craig at Micro Blue racing is saying the engine finish will yield some incredible numbers when complete, but with the work from aaen, we got a stock reading of 69HP Max and with porting/pipe/jetting 87HP.

The sled when finished will be black and white. Instead of stickers, I'm going have a friend that paints motorcycles do a custom job.

This is the gauge pod, I put the EGT in the lower right. Just wish I could find a white face speedo and tach, or better yet, a single combo speedo/tech replacement and I'd block out the second hole or possibly get the BRTech cowel induction pod and relocate the egt gauge.
That's a sweet project you have there! I don't like the chrome windshield, but other than that it's a sweeeeet sled.
what does it matter if you dont like the chrome shield. im sure he put it on because he likes it. sled looks tits!
ya looks pretty sweet, the chrome makes the sled haha. its goin real well
I've seen a few rev's on this site with the BOSS seat, It makes me wonder whats so good about it? Personally i don't think it looks any better is it just a taller seat or what?...Later
Sweet sled! Very good HP numbers you got there with your mods.

Why didn't you go with the stock Goodwin 550 clutch kit? What changes were made to the kit to improve it any?

In some cases BOSS seats can look very very good, and they are higher than stock too

Its alot lighter to,your stock seat will hold alot of water, i don't think a boss seat will retain any water, not sure what the weight savings would be, but i would after a long ride the boss seat would be 15to20lbs lighter than your stock seat.
IMO (i'm guessing on the weight savings)

The boss seat is about 6lbs lighter then stock, with the highrise its 2" taller (easier to goto a standing position), uses a different foam that doesn't soak up water and is a little more comfortable then the stock seat. The material it is made of is also stickier then the stock '06 X seat.

The Goodwin clutch kit for the 550 or any KIT for that matter is designed to work with stock engine settings. When tuning a clutch, HP/torque curve need to be considered, as well as traction and rider/sled weight. There is not a much stock about the sled anymore so a completely custom setup was in-order. As far as exactly what was changed, I'm not sure, but I'll ask.
Cool sled, just got a MXZ 550 X myself. I was wondering if your tach always stays at 1000 or 1100 rpms when shut off? I noticed that is what it is on in your pic. Mine does the same... Do you know if this is normal for fan cooled sleds??

Thanks

Just noticed that myself, I dont pay attention to the gauges when its off. As far as it being normal, I dont know, but it works correctly when the sled is running and thats all I care about.
I just heard that if you had electric start the needle would go to zero but this is normal for fans without e start
Yeah my sisters does the same thing its normal for a fan.
Tach at 1100 is normal; mine does the same.
nice sled. i was thinkin of sellin my 03 f5 next year and doin the same thing u did. what hp #s is it around. What about top speed??

HP gains was posted in my first post; stock 69, modified 87hp. Not sure about the top speed yet since I've had no snow to ride yet, a few runs in my backyard on the grass is all I've done with it so far. Next weekend I'll be in Houghton, MI and a friend may meet up with us to do some radar runs.

I put a lightweight rotor from SLP on the sled (we built a new hub to fit the smaller shaft of the 550X) and with the stock rotor off we did a little modifying. We designed a cut pattern for the stock rotor and threw it on a CNC machine. Stock rotor weighs 3.5lbs, after cutting it, 2.25lbs. I'm going to put the cut rotor back on the sled for houghton and hopefully get around 400 miles on it (weather and conditions permitting.)
that is an AWESOME project you got going there!!, you have the Aaen dc silencer and i was wondering how it sounds?? i just purchased a aaen silencer for my 550f gsx and i just wanted to know what the sound was like before i install it

Nice upgrades and hp#'s. How did it the radar run go, what did you see for top speeds? I am looking at an '08 550x. Wondering what to get for it. How is the aeen pipe/can combo? Seen some people with custom jaws pipes on dootalk, don't know how they are though or if they are twins. Let us know how the machine ran last season and what you seen for speeds. And post pics too if you got that custom paint job done.
