550 fan owners BEWARE

I bought a 2014 Polaris Indy Adventure 2-up last year and then came across posts about this very issue with the 550 fan cooled. I spoke to a gentleman on this board named po1ar1s who knows a guy that works in development for Polaris. He said that all of these issues were true and were in the earlier sleds, and that they fixed the issues in the 2014, to my great relief.

"Yes, all of these modifications were done on the 2014's. They also revised the piston for last year which also was a huge help with reliability for 2014. We have had the opportunity to get to know the guy in charged of snowmobile testing at Polaris and I guess the piston was a big part of the problem with the 550's. I would not worry about your machine, we pretty much refused to sell a 550 up until last year." - po1ar1s

Thanks for the info. Where can I get information/tutorial on the fan duct kit modification? I want to do this right away.

I do think they did something to help it run cooler. po1ar1s told me "I talked to a guy in NH that had 10 new 550's for rentals last year and he had zero engine failures. His experience was much better than what he had to deal with on the previous 550s." That speaks something, considering the consistent horror stories of older 550 rental fleets.
