I had a 2004 600SDI and bought a 2005 500SS. For the difference in price, the 500SS is the better way to go. My 600SDI blew up at 5500 miles. The 500SS has 10,000 miles on it and I will run it this coming season. The 600 SDI got 17-19 MPG and 140 miles to a qt of oil. The 500SS gets 15-17 MPG and 150 miles per qt of oil. The 500SS will stay with most sleds. My bud has one and he will run with SD 800's and AC F-7's. A lot of that is the rider but fact remains he stays with them. This was on trails, not on a lake. I can't justify spending $1,000+ more for a 600SDI over the 500SS. But to each his own. Spend your $$$ the way you want too. You earned it.

Will not keep up with the 600SDI or get near the fuel mileage. My boss has 2 of them and they are very good sleds. Good sleepers to race 500 and 600 sleds with too :frech11:

I disagree with this. The SDI is only marginally faster and will only get 1-2 mpg better fuel mileage. Many times it will come down to rider weight when racing across a field as to who makes the other side first. We have two 05 500 SS's and an 04 SDI. For the $1200 difference in cost, the 500 SS is the way to go.

My 500ss usually keeps up with my Uncle's 600HO until we hit about 75. Maybe he goes 3-4 mph faster on the top.
I can still get him out of the hole.

Get the 500ss and ride teh sh** out of it. 5500 miles and only a couple changed belts and a new track.

honestly, that's it.
