So im in the market to purchase another sled. Havent bought a sled since 2014 last sled was a artic cat zr800 sno pro. Ive been riding sleds since 1998. But started a buisness and it involves snow removal so just haven felt comfortable buying another sled. its 7 hr drive to the UP for good snow. While we dont get a lot of snow where im at average is 30in a year i always worried about being 7 hrs away and then a storm blows through at home. But now its time to get back in the saddle. First trip planned for right after christmas gonna head to munising or bergland. Anyway enough rambling.

So Ive narrowe dit down to 2 sleds a possiable 3rd.

2025 Polaris XCR 9R 136 "price OTD 21,707"

2024 Ski Doo MXZ XRS 850Etech 137 with smart shox "OTD 17,663"

considered looking at 2025 AC ZR 858 price not sure i think somewhere around 18,000

Both sleds are BN the ski doo was a demo never put together last year so they are taking 3575.00 off the top.

Iv always rode AC or SD ive never rode a polaris I do own a 2021 Turbo S 4 SXS olny problem was teh P90 clutch ordeal but did have a stop ride for 3 months. I know back when i was riding a lot polaris wasnt known for reliabilty main reason i always rode ski doo.

The polaris is the way im leaning but just not sure with it having a fairly new motor. Definatly like the way it felt just sitting on it in the show room better then the Ski doo.

The arctic cat is a thought but worried about them going belly up and its a new motor for them as well. So not sure if i should even consider it.

The ski doo honestly felt like my renegades ive had over the years. Didnt wow me at all and the sliver color is dog shit.

I could really use some solid advice on reliabilty issues from each brand over the last few years that ive been away. Has polaris stepped and changed there ways with quality? Is the P22 clutch gonna give me fits like my P90 clucth did in my RZR ive read where they are sheering bolts on teh P22.

Should i worry about AC going under? Just any solid information you can give would be great.

Riding style UP/WI trail riding will hit the power lines if there is good powder. But I would say 90% trail riding and the at home banging ditches and riding corn/bean fields.

I love my toys and I like to go fast i have o problem spending money on big power but when i do i build i build if for reliabilty. Im sharing some pics of my toys just to give you idea of what typ of buyer i am. Thanks for your time.

I do but dont need a lake racer. Need something thats gonna corner like its on rails. When the sun goes down we ride hard in the trails. Thundercat has always been a lake racer and the 9000 is a 4 stroke. Im not ready to give up the smell of a 2 stroke when it comes to sleds. I also read while its fast it lifts and or pushes in the corners.

The 9R has been in the mountain sleds for a few years and is based off the 650/850 so it's not really new. Everything I've heard about it is it's a beast.

The 858 seems to be having some teething problems..I just watched a Muskoka Freerider video where he bought a brand new one and it was throwing codes and went into limp mode several times on his first ride.

I'm personally not a skidoo guy so I can't comment. I've heard great things about their smart shocks though.

9R will be the most fun, XRS with smart shocks will be the better ride if smooth sleds is your desire, both are fast and both are sweet sleds, if it was 850 vs 850 I'd say XRS but that 9R motor seems like a hit and would be a blast in an XCR, I had a '22 XCR 850, was a fun sled, have a '24 Rave 850 now and thats the sled for me but I like bumps and its a bump sled.

Not a ski doo fan but I’d put that at second. As it’s a good to go platform been around works etc I’d pass on the 858 and revisit that thought in a year or 2 after kinks are worked out. Based on your pics it’s obvious you like your toys to have some smoke and I think you would be not real happy when not only the poo 840 but 9r drive around the xrs. They just have more smoke . The doo can get it moving also but it takes more parts from my observation. The doo might be the safest bet in fact. But it’s not the funest bet.

Thanks for the input. So if I want to keep up with the 9R I would need to see if they 25 doo 850 turbo r comp?

The guys I ride with ride 850s and 900 turbos 7 out 9 of them have Ski doo the other 2 ride AC a thundercat and a ZR. wish I could ride a 9R I have a feeling if I could it would be real hard not to buy it. The only thing that has me questioning it is I feel like Polaris might be pushing that motor to the edge.

I know the doos are reliable just not sure about the Polaris.

with the doo like I said I’m struggling with color scheme just not a fan. The 25 Black turbo r now on the other hand looks good.

No Polaris Boost sleds available? I would think one of those would be more up your alley than the 9R.

The 9R or Boost engines are not “on edge” at all.

And please do us all a favor, stay off the power lines for playing. There’s already a bunch of complaints coming in up there about that. As much as it happens, that doesn’t mean it’s legal. Tons of legal off trail to play on in the UP. Just do the research to know where. Too many problems with off trail and noise these days.

Thanks for the input. I havent rode power lines since 2009. When we did it was with locals in the ashland Wi area and we used them to get to land they owned. I dont think we have ever rode power lines in the UP. But definatly dont want to pissing people off so ill make sure our group stays off them

If it was me. I would buy the 9r. Xcr. Or a boost. In either -37or assault. Depending on my what I’m looking to do . I’m just saying the doo is a good product also they just don’t get me fired up. Looking at them or riding them. Poo has had some recalls. In the last and made some changes to the p-22. If feel it’s a solid product. The 9r is def. Not running on the ragged edge.

So we left a week early when we saw there is gonna be a warm up the week after Christmas I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t lose most of there snow up here. So we headed to twin lakes Sunday got sled off the truck. And tore a tendon in my throttle hand. Ended up in Houghton ER Sunday night I did mange to ride 70 miles yesterday but in quit a bit of pain. It’s snowing today so gonna try and ride some. Sucks but it could always be worse so I’m trying to stay postive there are a lot of people going through much worse. If the worst thing I have going on is not able to ride my sled I’m doing pretty good.
Now from what I’ve been able to ride the sled is awesome it rides great handles great has plenty of power in the bottom end. It’s a rocket ship coming out of the corners. Again a lot of this will only get better once I can really ride the sled. I would say I’m able to ride at 40% of my capabilities. So far definitely happy with my choice.
