It's amazing how much extra it costs when you don't live where you ride. If you moved to Cochrane you'd be half the cost and be able to ride more miles and have a longer season. I see riders all the time here in Quebec that travel big distances to ride good trails. In saying that it's cheap fun compared to lots of other ways to enjoy yourself. My son just came back from Jamaica and $3000 later he had 1 week in the sun. To me I'd sooner have all winter and sled.

And probably now has the Corona, or drank a lot of them. Lol

I also did a cost summary of ALL costs for a Quebec saddle-bag trip I did earlier this year:

6-Feb-2020 3-Day Trail Pass $101.81
6-Feb-2020 Lodging $77.59
6-Feb-2020 Truck Gas $57.29
7-Feb-2020 Breakfast $14.32
7-Feb-2020 Sled Gas in St. Anne $10.18
7-Feb-2020 Lunch $20.69
7-Feb-2020 Sled Gas at Cheval $24.38
7-Feb-2020 Lodging (2 meals included) $127.45
8-Feb-2020 Sled Gas in Mattawan $18.00
8-Feb-2020 Sled Gas at Repos $20.00
8-Feb-2020 Lunch at Repos $20.00
8-Feb-2020 Lodging (2 meals included) $97.55
9-Feb-2020 Sled Gas at St. Michel-des-Saints $22.82
9-Feb-2020 Sled Gas at Macaza $15.40
9-Feb-2020 Dinner $24.48
9-Feb-2020 Lodging (per man) $77.59

Total per Man: $729.55 (based on 2 guys sharing the costs and double occupancy) or $243.18 per day (for everything) to ride some of the best groomed trails in the world for 3 solid days.

In a low local snow season, when I suggest to others that they load up and go North to Quebec, they say it is too expensive. And when I ask them how much this season they have NOT spent riding local trails, they don't seem to have an answer. These same people will spend $100 to $200 or more per day to ride muddy and whooped out local trails. But yet, they will not go to Quebec. Weird.

Of note, my annual sled depreciation is between $500 to $800 per year.

I don't keep track. I enjoy it and that is what matters to me. As long as it doesn't affect any other parts of my life because of my spending I'm ok with it. However, after just mentally estimating some costs I do know I should scale back a little.....who knows if that will happen!

I did this for 1 year after my wife was CURIOUS about the approximate cost of this addition,, So I keep 95% of the cost to ride for about 4800 miles with most of it from my backyard and 1-10 day chalet rental, I did not include the cost of sled, trailer, truck, drive belts, studs, carbides, windshield, helmet, any clothing, just gas/oil/food/drink, accommodations (dancers don't count, that's a necessity) :Wow1: when calculated we both agreed I will never do that again!
It now cost me a 10 day spring vacation every year for my wife and I, a new car for her every 3 years a new kitchen lol. But even worst I did no longer bitch & complain about the cost of her hair cuts/color and manicures,, nor the cost of shoes/boots/sandals,, etc,,
Despite the amount it cost to sled she has never used it against me, nor never mentioned it again even in some of our most difficult times. It kind of opened my eyes on some of the trivial stuff she'd wanted or purchased which in the past I would have mentioned something about it. As scary as it was for a young couple (at the time) it changed me to be much more understanding and accepting of her wants/needs when it comes to spending. I figured I've saved well over 100K by not getting divorced :roflmao: See sledding pays for itself,, Cheers :bc:

$1100 for full year-round insurance on both sleds
$270 for registration/trail permits for both sleds
$300 truck gas
$120 sled gas
$25 oil
$120 meals
$98 new trailer tire
$78 trailer registration
(No new gear this year)
Total = $2111

Total miles..............210 per sled (bad year for snow and temps, only made 2 trips 3 hrs north). So averaging $10.05 Canadian per mile for 2 sleds.

Thankfully the wife loves sledding almost as much as I do.

Idk how some of you are showing such cheap costs. Shit I am just thinking about when we do day trips to tug hill. It's roughly 150 miles one way in the trucks so at 8-9 mpg towing, plus sled gas, food and miscellaneous for the day. It's no doubt $100-$125 a guy just for the day! And that is dragging your dead sweaty ass back home that night. With our low and or no snow WNY winters we do several one day runs like that plus a yearly trip somewhere. I don't bother keeping track as it is definitely a ton of money, but it's what I enjoy doing and spending money on so in the end that's all that matters.
