it has 3900 miles on it, so I am thinking maybe it needs a ring job?
Rings are probably fine, as thats not a whole lot of miles on that motor your top speed is about right, what were the conditions like that day? Wet heavy snow?, loose powder?, hard pack? high pressure, low pressure, temps? all these issues affect performance even EFI sleds. So just clean your APV"s if they need it.

I agree, depending on conditions, that may not be that far off. The best that I ever saw on an 01 600 EFI was about 105-106, verified on GPS.

like aczr600 said, check and make sure your valves aren't stuck, and also
check that the valve cables are in perfect sync !!!! I had to adjust mine every 900 miles
The fastest my stock 01 carb 600 went was 103.
I had 6000 miles and the sled and the compression was still fine.
Pull your valve housing and clean them out and sync those cables!

Just for the sake of argument, my totally stock 2000 ZR 600 EFI without power valves, no studs (except the one on the seat) showed 100mph easily on a long run on a hardpacked lake. Outside temperature was 0 to +5 deg F. These 600's go to 80-85 mph very fast, but take awhile to reach the triple digit mark.

Rings should be fine. My riding buddy has a 2001 600 efi with 7500 miles on and original rings. He gets 100 to 105 on the speedo depending on conditions. Check you're valves, we've had to adjust his several times.
