Ya my first new sled was a 00 600deluxe. it had been reliable, is fairly quick. wakes up a ton with a clutch kit and an pipe. Although it is fairly heavy and feels like a rock when pounding though bumps or ditches. But a comfortable cruiser.

Thanks sled and snow, I appreciate your help. I see lots of these for sale, so a lot of people must be riding them. Anyone else have anything to add that would help me decide if this is the right sled for me? thanks

If it were me and you are set on a Gen 2 chassis, I would go with an 00 600 xc. I think the deluxe still had the big block motor where the xc has the small block version. But I probably would be looking for an 01 600 xc, which is the edge chassis and will ride better than the gen2. If you could find an 00 600 xc SP, that is the edge chassis also. IMO the edge chassis is quite a bit better in the bumps then the old gen 2.

Exactly what he said!!

Try and get the small block 600 with VES. Also, for a few $$ more I highly recommend you move up to a 2001 XC SP 600 in the Edge chassis - BIG BIG improvement. If you want an Classic with M10 you should go up to a 2002 Classic as the 2001 classic still used the big block motor without valves.

The regular release 00 xc600sp was in the GenII chassis, but there was a limited build of 600's in the edge chassis that year.

The 2000 Deluxe DID NOT HAVE VES - It HAD the old BIG BLOCK MOTOR!!! The 2000 XC SP had the small block VES 600. The deluxe did have the old Xtra 12 rear suspension which was a copying attempt of an M10 and killed top speed. The XC SP had the Xtra 10 rear suspension.

There was a limited release 2000.5 600 in the EDGE Chassis - kind of a prototype. It looks just like the 2001 Edge XC SP - however the 2000.5 has black face gauges while the 2001 has white face gauges - that is pretty well the only way to tell them apart.

2001 Edge XC SP is the 600 VES and it rocks!
2001 600 Classic is the old Big Block motor without VES and has the M10 rear.

2002 600 Classic has the 600 VES small block motor and M10.

Bottom line - if you want an XC get an 2001 Edge 600 XC SP. If you want a Classic get the 2002 600 Classic!!

The 2000 Deluxe would be last choice out of the above - it has the old Gen II chassis, the old motor (big block) and an old suspension - Xtra 12.

Here is the Parts Manual for the 2000 600 Deluxe. If you look around page c 8-9 you will clearly see it is the old Big Block motor without VES and with Kehin (sp) carbs.

well said red rocket
the xc 600 delux was a decent sled, but honestly for a few bucks more you are way better off with the edge....

Thanks for all the comments, I appreciate it. I do a lot of lake riding, some groomed trails, no ditch bustin'. Love to run quick, but don't go over 60 or 70 for extended runs. Sure don't want to be running a dog, but I'm also looking for a sled that I can rely on and will be fairly comfortable for longer runs. Think this fit these needs? Thanks again
