The 96 just needs a lot of set-up. The timing is fine stock, no need to change it. But it needs carburation changes, and clutching, gearing.

Jet to 350/370/370 mains, needle #4 clip if below 0, #3 clip if above. Change the needle jets to 247 P6, stock pilots, air screw at 1/2 turn. Drill out the pilot air bypass to 1.8mm with a finger drill. Bypass is directly below pilot jet, remove it and drill through into carb bore. Set the idle to 1800 rpm warm. Carbs must be synced properly by the cables.

Check the clutch alignment, adjust both engine torque stops tight. Remove the windage plates from the secondary clutch. Use a 3211066 or 3211075 belt (best). Shim the primary clutch for .015" belt to sheave clearance with a new belt. For clutching, at a minimum epi black or hot seat white primary, 10-54 or hot seat 52 gram hypershift weights (med tip) (better than 10 series by far for this engine). Secondary hot seat white and HSP38S helix. A R8 would work with the stock gold spring, just not near as good as the white/38S. I also preferred 21/39 gears. 82-8400 rpm, 8400 on a long run, mile or more.
Also check the secondary clutch for a piece of casting flash in the sheave where the spring goes, which could pop the spring out. Loosen the track, and with the rear suspended, adjust the front limiter strap so from the strap bracket on the torque arm to the rail just in front of the bumper measures 6". The rear strap so from the bottom of the spring coil to the rail just behind the bumper measures 7 7/8". Remove the RRSS, and set the torsion springs on high. Drill out the lower position in the tunnel for the front torque arm, and mount it there. The pad on the inside of the tunnel has the hole, it just needs to be drilled through.

Completely different sled after.[/b]

Pockets would this be the same setup you would recommend for a 97 as well besides the drilling of the pilot. I am working on my uncles and dont have much info on these. thanks
