If its really clean buy it, and if your worried about the efi then just swap it to a carb setup. Dennis kirk has the boot you need to bolt up the carbs.

Yeah no problem, I think you would have to change out the ignition coil too due to the efi having a different timing curve. Easy enough though.

 

I've changed 5 or 6 to carbs, never changed the CDI (coil).

 

Usually when the EFI fails, it is the computer. If it runs great, etc. buy it. I just would not pay much over $800 for one.

 

when these worked. there was nothing better for run quality. but these were expensive to diagnose and repair. you had to take to a poo dealer.or Subaru dealer. to put on a select monitor. same thing Subaru used on they cars. but you would need the program from Polaris for the sled to be tested. this is why when things didn't work right people switched them to carb's. like said if it's cheap buy it.

These are the carb boots you need to mount them to the efi monoblock.

 

The 500 efi is good as long as it runs like anything else. Imo there are better choices out there....i would make it definite not to pay a whole lot for this sled no matter how good.

 

Keep looking, considering the age of the sled it's only a matter of time before you start having issues.

Thanks for the info fellas. A friend of a friend has a 92 500 EFI with 1600 mi on it, and wants it gone. My son is nearing sledding age, and think this may be a decent starter sled.

Seen those early indy efi sleds just go bad from sitting around...their fine when they run. Imo...i wouldn't offer him much when it comes to this old sled.
