So I have a dilemma with my switchback assualt. The dealer I always work with will trade me my 1.35 for a 1.6 for $50 if I do it myself. Changed a lot of tracks so not worried about that. I've always rode my 121 with the 1.5 intense and loved it so I thought with a 144 I would be happy with the 1.35. Now I'm second guessing myself. I want this thing to catwalk like my indy. So can it do it with 1.35? Help me decide. And what gearing is the 1.6 vs 1.35

1.325=23-40
1.6=22-41
Dont think you will really hang skis with 1.6 i had it on a xf 141. Great track but for me not enough between 1.3 and 1.6. Just run the 1.3 or jump to 1.75 or 2 inch paddle if you want to hang skis and have some fun.

No experience with this new sled. Fwiw i pulled my track literally last night and put 1.75 on. I rode it around yard with the 1.325 and it would hang skis with ease but it was grass. Im in michigan and almost every sled ive owned gets a 1 3/4. It just imo works great here for backwoods and trail.

I agree 1.6 is a great track and it should be the lowest lug as a standard on this sled. If op sled came with the 1.6 i would definitely say dont swap it. Just last week i looked right at 2 sleds in dealer with 1.325 and 1.6 and can say just by looking 1/8" - 3/16 difference. For me thats just not enough to justify spending any kind of money. I made up my mind then and there if i swap track it had to be bigger or i was just gonna run stock.

I believe the 1.6 cobra may have changed since they brought out the ice cobra. Maybe it’s more durable? But I had one on a 2010 and 2 of them on 2013s, not impressed and wouldn’t spend any money on those.. If the op lost lugs on a backcountry track I know those original cobras wouldn’t be good a good option

Don't waste your time on the 1.6 cobra. Not enough of a difference to justify expense or work involved to do the swap.

I've had both 1.6 and 1.75 track on same sleds for comparison and there was NOTHING the 1.6 cobra did better than the 1.75 backcountry.

Go straight to 1.75 backcountry. This is worth it.

If you do opt for the 1.6 cobra....I wouldn't touch the gearing from the 1.74 ratio. Anymore gear than that resulted in more track spin. The sled has PLENTY of power to turn the 1.6 cobra with 1.74 ratio.

I'm geared 22/41 ~ 1.86. (70 pin chain). Works very well, but I believe the sled would easily pull 21/38 ~ 1.81 (68 pin chain) without issues as well. 22/40 ~ 1.82 would work as well but have lotsa dogleg (would need 70 pin chain).

Either 22/41 or 21/38 will work great with 1.75 BC. Like I said, I wouldn't consider using the 22/41 with the 1.6 cobra unless you studd the shit out of it because it WILL SPIN. We don't use studs so the 1.8? ratio in combination with the 1.6 cobra actually hurt some performance because it couldn't seem to get power down.

Re-Hashing an older thread here but I'm curious- Have you (Sixpack) or anyone tried the 1.81 gearing with a stock (68 pin) chain on the 800 SBA with a 1.75 BCX track??
I currently run the 1.86 gear ratio with the 70 Pin chain on the 1.75 track and I feel i'm leaving a bit on the table...Was gonna look at clutching but thought I would see if anyone has run this combo? Thanks

I run 1.6 gearing with my 1.75BC x121", but I also spin it with a 910.

Have studs for it but just haven't gotten around to installing yet.

Fields and ditches is all I ride out here

Ok guys made up my mind going to run the 1.35 and probably be disappointed. the backcountry hooked hard but doesn't like the wide open pulls to get to the trails. It only lasted a season. I always want bigger but cant always justify it with the winters we've been having. That's why I thought 1.6 would be alright studded. But not many seem to like it. I guess I haven't had a sled in years that will probably be this fast on top with the 1.35. My indy would catwalk like nothing with the 1.5 in foot and half. I'm sure I'll be changing it next year when I'm disappointed and can't do it.

I think the 1.3 is a very capable track all around. I know its a good track and will take you anywhere you need to go in the flatlands where it sounds like most of us that have posted ride. I watch guys climb higher and ride in deeper with 1.25 120s. Its all about the rider. I think for now you made the right choice. Talon is suposed to be hitting the drawing board with a new 1.77. I would of liked to have tried it but they had to stop producing due to de laminating. Will keep you posted on the backcountry. Also if you had a shorter track with the backcountry you may of had the x2 which is a firmer lug and where known for tearing lugs.

I personally like to do things one time. Ride it with the 1.3 and see how she does. If you swap tracks for a minimal lug difference and then decide its not enough then wheres that leave you? Op can also get good money for stock track. Watch Turbo jamie video with his sled vs bcx with 1.6.

You should go down to 22-41 which gives you1.86 ratio. I wouldn’t go anything taller than that and if your heavy off trail I would maybe even go a little lower to something that gives you a 1.95 ratio. 1.86 is what’s coming on the factory 1.6 cobra’s and the backcountry is more aggressive. 2.10 is what’s coming on the 2” tracks and 1.74 on the 1.3 cobra.

Gearing and track selections were always a trade off. Assuming you have the same sled (144” length) with the following setups:
Small lug(1.35) ....taller gears(1.6-1.74ish range).....great top end, reasonable acceleration....shitty deeper snow performance.

BIG lug (> 2”)…..low gears(>2.0) ……awesome acceleration, great deep snow performance, Poor top end and trail performance. (handling?)

1.5” to 1.75” lug with gears in the 1.8 to 1.9 range - Good acceleration, decent topend (close to triple digits), good deep snow and trail performance….basically does everything reasonable well. This where I fit.

BUT…..put any of these type of sled in each others environment and outcomes on speed/mobility/handling will be very different.

107 on recall was on hard packed trail....which most likely involved some overdrive as well....I don't expect to be able to do that speed in 6 inches of snow.

Technically speaking the 1.86 ratio is good for around 96 MPH @ 1:1 ratio at 8300 ish. Throw in 10% worth of overdrive on hard pack lake/trail and you are right in the 105-107 MPH range. The 1.81 ratio is only going to make about a 3-4 MPH difference.

If you are doing 93 MPH, Id say you are close.....comes down to clutching, terrain, outside temps, rider weight, etc.

You say your bud had an 15' 800 with a 1.75 track....but which sled? Assault? Pro-s? Pro-x?

Are they geared the same?? :c-n:

had a 2011 SBA with 1.35" and 1.695 gears , it went thru deep snow way better than my 2015 Adv. with 137x1.75" BC track. And had more top end than I had need for :) But also had some smell of burned belt when riding really slow so I dropped top gear to a 22 for a 1.77 ratio.

Now got a 850 SBA on order, I'd love to have a 1.6" or 1.75" on it instead of the 2" - I think it'll work better for my usage.
My first snowcheck ever, all my previous sleds were bought used or new in season - I'm pretty stoked :D

I have no doubt.....different chassis and footprint.

Had a 2015 and 2016 Pro S....one with a 1.6 cobra...the other with a 1.75 BC....geared to match....neither of which are as good in the deeper snow than the traditional tunnel/rail suspension......even the Assault with the 1.35 track....they just seemed to float better.

Heres a good one.....try backing up with the Pro-S or the PRO-x in like 8 inches of snow! :laff:

Reverse on those sleds is virtually useless on anything other than hard pack.....

I'm sure you will enjoy the 850 with the 2" inch track as well. If your happy with topend around 85 mph and drive in DEEP snow all the time....the 2" with the 19/40~ 2.1 gearing should fair you well. :bc2:

Where does a 121x1.75 studded with 1.6 gears fit in? Oh, a 910 turning it too ;)

It never stops spinning lol. Before the studs i was getting ~90km/tank. Havent been able to check a similar ride with the studs on. Much better traction though. Although a 121 anything doesnt do much good in snow like this.
