I used to ride strictly yamaha's but found a good deal on a 05 ski doo and bought it. I'm riding with a 03 RX-1, 02 Viper, and an 06 600 Polaris. Most of our riding speeds range from 35-45 in the turns to 55-65 mph on the rough stuff to 80-90 mph on the smooth straight shots getting air on any hill that we can.. Should I do some upgrades to this 500ss, or ride it a and go from there??

Depends where ya plan on riding, sometime with a smaller sled you are going faster some places where ya shouldnt be trying to stay with the pack, on somewhat tight trails, thats a real nice sled , I like to run haul roads in northern maine where ya can run hard and fast , for that i like an 800

You will have NO problem keeping up with those guys...you'll be pleasently surprised w/the 500ss. A possible shock upgrade would be "my" only suggestion, but ride it first,it might be just right! :div20:

Rode a 500ss last year and I couldn't believe how quick it was. I raced an Polaris Ultra SKS 679 triple with triple pipes and it was a tie except the 500ss went out of the hole quicker! Plus its alot quieter and MUCH better in the bumps!
You'll love it.

I love my 500ss...it has more than enough power and speed for trail riding. I like to keep a pretty decent pace and don't feel I would ever need to upgrade to a faster sled.

I just hope I'm not on the other side of the hill that you are going 80-90 mph over. :help:

Two of us rode SS with an 800 Gade last winter up in Canada, definately no problem keeping up in trails and in most straight aways up there. Could ride 80 mph all day long with the SS without problems, except for worrying about the cops on sledsd. After 85 the 800 walked away from me and his would max out about 115, mine toped out at 100 on the gage (93 on GPS)
Our only problem was top end when he nailed it over 85 he would keep speeding up, but I don't need to go triple digits anywere, just not safe doing over 80 in the trails constantly or even on the lakes or rivers.
Love the SS. You will be very please for the dough!

The sled will keep up if you can. depends how good a rider you are. From 0-60 I dont think there is much difference from 500cc-800cc. After that the big iron is going to smoke you. On tight trails the smaller cc can kick an 800cc. But like I said it depends how good a rider you are.
