Have you changed your clutching on the 01 800? That is where I would start. I don't think the 02-03 ZR8 has different gearing than you...but I can't recall. Marc

I have an 01 ZR 800 and I changed the gearing for more top end. The stock gearing (01, 02, and 03) is 24/29, I changed to 25/39 and the top end was improved. Note: You need to optimize the clutching to notice any changes from the gearing. The stock 01 clutching overrev's too much. You need to run the engine between 7300 to 7500 RPM to make use of the power. The stock 01 clutching rev's 7600 to 7800 RPM after the sled gets rolling. I would start with 02 cluch components and then tune from there.

You can change one tooth. The stock 72 pitch chain still works with the 25/39 gearing but it is tricky to install. Make sure you have the tensioner completely loose and both sprockets loose and then slide them on at the same time.

I also noticed a mistake in my first post, the stock gearing is 24/39 not the 24/29 that I listed.
