Don't know if anyone else had this problem, when i stop the sled it stays at a high idle for a while (around 2500) before it goes into a normal idle. If i shut the ignition off and turn it right back on it goes to idle. Throttle and choke cables seem to be adjusted right, idle screw has to be set at a low idle otherwise the high idle goes to 3500. Not sure if this is a carb issue or electrical.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Make sure your carb boots aren't torn. Any vaccuum leaks will cause your idle to be high.
Shutting it off and starting it again might be "resealing the torn rubber until it pulls apart again. Make sure all your clamps are on the boots as well.
While idling, Take some carb cleaner with the straw on the can and carefully spray a little around the boots and other areas for suspected vac leaks. If the idle changes, you found your leak
Propane might work better, If the tear is small carb cleaner might not make it in. But propane will. The idle will rise if propane gets sucked in. Just go around the boots with an unlit torch.
I took the airbox off and a couple of the boots look like crap, ordered four new ones. Looks like the boots are sealed with something in the airbox, will the new ones just seal tight enough or do i have to seal them in.
I don't believe there is any sealant on them from the factory but someone might of had a leak (same one you are chasing) and tried to fix it with silicon caulk or something like that. Do you have a picture of it?
All I do is spray some silicon spray to lube up the boots prior to install. I also warm them up with a heat gun / hair dryer.
It's a bit of a pain to get the airbox/boots on and off
Read this that's kind of how you do it
I did test with carb cleaner first but didn't notice much difference but looked at the boots and noticed that two of then looked distorted from bottom of clamp slipping towards airbox. I do lube the boots with WD40 before i put then on the carbs. Good info on how to install on the other thread, hard to see where the bottom of the clamps are on the middle two carbs. Thanks
I don’t think a leak from the air box side would make it idle high. Those boots on the air box never line up all the way around the carb so I know the leak on that side. Maybe it’s in the linkage. Hanging up around the rail in the back.
Maybe the boots on the cylinder side have cracks. I’d clean them with some acetone then smear some clear silicone on them to seal any cracks. Those rubbers on that side are pricey.
Finnaly got to work on the sled, took the head side boots off and sealed them gave it 24 hrs, and put it back together with no difference. Not sure what to do next
Finally brought it to a dealer and it was a bad boot on #1 cylinder. He said it wouldn't do it all the time but caught it with some carb cleaner. As hard as I tried I couldn't find it even with the torch test. Thanks for your help
Glad you got it man and I hope you still, have snow around there to enjoy it!
