Fuel and limited food items last year when I was up there. The owner told us the state was giving them crap about hauling fuel in on the groomer it had to be done by truck so not sure if they got that figured out this winter. They had some beams up for the new building but not much last winter.
Check their Facebook page. Last year they had a very short open period towards the end of the season with gas. I would imagine they’re probably also playing it by ear this season as well. They are rebuilding and posting progress on that page. Hope they manage to open at least partially, great ride and I’m sure this whole thing hasn’t been easy economically on them....
Thank you Friends for your support after the fire. It was and still is a humbling experience that has for ever changed our lives. We knew that it would be a long fight to get a rebuild permit...and it was. Seeing the writing on the walls we needed an income source. It was not just our home that burned that day, but also our business and our way of life for the past 20 years. 11 months later we recieved the rebuid, rezone, rethis, rethat permit. Construction comenced.
Knowing we would be a long time without a paycheck we bought and re-opened the True Value Hardware Store in Millinocket, now known as Kathdin True Value Hardware. Later last year we opened Chester's Restaurant in Millinocket right across from Walgreen's. Chesters cooks up great fried chicken, fresh pizza, and next week real yummy burgers. This MLK weekend is Chester's first year anniversary.
This past fall David, Zach and Jake pounded nails for 86 days straight (two days off) built the frame, sheathed it, house wrapped it and got 2 of the 3 steel roofs on, then put 53 windows in. Weather shut them down last month. They will resume in the spring.
Needing to take care of business in Millinocket we will re-open for weekends (starting on the 23rd) at Chesuncook specifically Thursday, Friday and Saturday with limited food, snacks, beverages and yes NON-ETH gasoline. We will begin grooming our regular trail once we have groomable snow, hopefully after this weekend's snow.
