First off all,
We have snow! Lots of snow. About 15” out on the Red Top. Groomers and Clubs are out getting the trails ready.
The Mille Lacs Drift-skippers report: The Soo Line has been groomed thru Aitkin and Mille Lacs Counties. The Red Top was groomed last night. The East Side Trail will be groomed tonite. Swamps are rolled and next weeks cold weather should help set them up.
Riding should be good for SNOWFEST. Ride smart and ride safe

Vintage snowmobile shows are fun, and I haven’t been to one in several years.

Will there be new model demo sleds for the general public to ride? If so, I’ll bring my helmet.

We got another 5 -6 inches today on top of last weeks foot plus. I put a quick 60 miles on this afternoon . The trails are amazing.
I saw the groomer out on the Soo Line. The club bought a new 12’ foot drag. It lays down a perfectly flat ribbon.
Just got word from the Groomer that today they have groomed the Soo Line in Mille Lacs & Aitkin counties, the Red Top Loop all swamps are rolled. The Eastside Trail will be groomed tomorrow night.
It should be excellent riding for SNOWFEST this Saturday,

That is THE way to go but going that way and coming into Red Top from the south side means you cross those big swamps. I wonder how they will be. If this cold will get them in shape by Saturday to ride. Don't think they will be good enough for the groomers to travel on for a while. They will be good enough for a sled but probably rough.

What is the dirt road that runs across that one wide open stretch? Can't really see it is a dirt road until you are almost up to it. Gentle rise to the road and wide and flat on either side. I jumped that at about sixty one day. Wasn't intending to. That was a Yahooooooo moment.

X2700. If you guys are coming up what time are you planning on getting there and where are you parking. I will tag along. I have color maps for everyone of the area. Could go over to Solona also. Anyone else coming?

Our plan is to be at the parking lot in isle at 9:00am? I believe its the lot you are talking about?
See you there!!

I would think with the below zero weather this week and a high of 12 or so today with cold and near zero next two days most of that water should be frozen over enough for a sled. We will see. Just have to watch it. I bet that one spot in Red Top where you cross about 25 feet of foot deep water that flows across the trail was open.

You guys have a safe trip, I sure would have been in riding with you guys but family Christmas party was already scheduled.

We got 2" of new snow here in Little Falls last night and with the cold the swamps that I crossed today between Little Falls and Brainerd where frozen, last week there was slush and soft spots in same swamps, so hopefully the Isle area will be good going.

That road is the one I mentioned, Munkelwitz RD. There's a large log house on the south/right when you are headed east right before the road. And yes it can sneak up on you when the trails are flat and fast....

Good run today, 40% failure rate within 5 miles, and a couple hundred yards apart even!! No big deal, easy tows back to the lot and the remaining 3 were off! Pretty nice trails for middle of December! Lunch in Waukon, saw some very nice vintage stuff at Mugg’s and off to finish out a 100 mile (OK, 97!) day. Quite a bit of traffic around the lake, great to see!

Great shakedown run today!
Did lose a couple sleds in first 5 miles!
Guess that’s why we have shakedown runs!!
After we got down sleds pulled back and loaded up the three of us made our way up soo to the I guess furthest east entrance to the red top trail.
Beginning was real nice then found section that was pretty bumped up for a bit then back to nice stuff!!
We ended up back at furthest west entrance and decided it was lunch time and headed to snow fest!
Great crowd at muggs and some nice old iron!
After dinner headed back up to check out that swampy area others had talked about.
We found it to be frozen good now but could tell where it had been pretty wet!
We looped around red top till we hit all the spurs then headed to trail that runs along lake and highway?
Not sure what trail that is?
Ran up one side and down the other!!
Some nice driveways to get some air!!
Overall great day!!
Didn’t look like much grooming yet outside of that area?

Yup! Thanks for the tow. Luckily it only put a twenty minute crimp in you guys day I have had terrible luck with the last three sleds and one four wheeler. All low miles and something wrong on first ride. Just got the ski doo back from servicing last weekend. That is really a bummer. Starting to get paranoid. Was a drag to have something acting up on the first ride again. Luckily didn't go but a few miles. Missed a really nice day to ride. Dropped the sled off at Power Lodge. I am thinking it might be a stator issue.

Thank you snowfesters!

It was a fun day! Thanks to all to all the Festers who came. You saw some cool sled movies, you experienced an impressive display of old iron, you competed in snowmobile trivia, won meat at a meat raffle, got some hot deals on gear and won door prizes all day.
AND most of all YOU raised money for the local snowmobile clubs.

Thank you

Save the date for next year. Sat. Dec 12th 2020. Always the second Saturday in December.
