Default New not so fun issue 2013 800

( posted in Pro climb first, Mod feel free to delete that one! )

Hello!
New to the forum and sledding, hoping you enlightened people can shed some light on my latest and greatest issue!

Purchased a 2013 800 end of last season, got about 10 rides in last year before I hurt myself ( non snowmobile related)

Sled is essentially stock with the exception of the adjustable post delete kit and it had awkward aftermarket bars on..38" wide! Has about 2000km on it now. Had a minor oil leak when I got it , was the strange "seal" between the oil reservoir and chaincase area, fixed it over the summer.

Took the sled out this early winter for a few rides , no issues at all ( other than terrible snow !). Put new CFR bars on a few weeks ago which are a lot more comfortable. Took the sled out and just did some trail riding maybe 10-20km tops, after turning it off it was near impossible to start warm... Left it sit for a while and it would start. Then tried again to start warm and anytime I touched the throttle it would bog down and turn off... ( thought maybe TSS issue since i changed my bars???)

Ended up getting it started and got it on my truck and took it home. Replaced the plugs as they came with the sled and looked a bit fouled ( decent chocolate brown color though), also thought the belt looked a bit glazed and replaced it as well. Sled fires up first or second pull perfectly and did so on several occasions in my garage.

Took it out this past weekend, started perfect at home and at the hill, got it about 2KM from the truck and it bogged down and died. Could not get it started no matter what I tried. Then after letting it sit, I would pull 3-4 times and on the 5th sometimes 6th pull, the pull cord would stop very abruptly and hurt a lot!! No clue what causes that to happen but I hated it.

Thought maybe I flooded it or something, took the hood off ( great design arctic cat! ), took plugs out, didn't notice anything out of the ordinary, engine would turn over freely with plugs out, gave it a dozen pulls or so, ( can also turn the primary easily by hand) put everything back together hoping it would start... then again maybe 5-6 pulls with WOT nothing, and then WHAM stops solid 1/2 to 3/4 through the pull.. gave up and towed it to my truck.

Any clue what could cause the issue where the pull cord stops very abruptly after a few pulls? I am new to the whole 2 stroke thing, do they build some type of compression after a few pulls and it locks up inside or has something else gone terribly wrong!

Any input is greatly appreciated!

No clue but if it were mine first thing I would do is pull the recoil and take a look around the stator.

Check to see if pull cord is getting caught in the cross support under the hood, been there done that, the other problem you might be having is the smart valves in the gas tank, collapsing smart valve

Have you checked the timing key? Just a thought, maybe the key is sheared at the flywheel?

Check fuel pump and smart valves in the gas tank. They had issues in 2013. My 2013 was bogging and running erratic till dealer replaced both. Been good ever since.

Thanks for the tips everyone, will check it the above out and let you know how it goes! It definitely seems like the bogging stopping issue could be fuel related for sure.

The cord, who knows, but I will check as recommended and see what I can find out. Just seemed odd that it was only after a certain amount of pulls all the time.

Pull the Y pipe off and see if it seized. Some of the 800 oil caps had venting issues causing oil starvation.

I ran my sled out of gas this weekend and the pull cord locked up. I had to work the primary backward to get the motor free. I thought I seized it. Now I have a slight intermittent bog in sometimes after a hard pull on takeoff sometimes on midrange on/off the throttle. Is that smart valves?

Whoever voted for the timing key for the flywheel wins a high five! Was sheared in half, found both pieces , put back together also changed out the throttle pin / washers and we are back in action! Now if it would snow more I would be out there!!

Was it an aftermarket key in there or the stock one?
