Default GM 5.3 intake & exhaust?

Gang I have a 2011 Suburban due for replacing the exhaust. I'm questioning whether to leave it stock or spend a couple more bucks to upgrade with K&N/flowmaster kind of stuff.

Truck isn't a daily driver, I pretty much only use it to tow, and my only reason to upgrade would be to do that better. I don't much care what it looks like or sounds like. Just wondering if I can pick up a couple hp or better yet ft. lb. Expecting minimal gains at best if I upgrade, but, if it gets the trailer up a hill any noticeable bit better, it might be worth doing.

For point of reference, the biggest thing I tow with it on the regular is a 20'x8' v-nose deckover and it works a little hard going long distances up big mountains, but not so hard that I've ever felt the need to upgrade. I'm still pretty much on the fence.

Whattya think?

K&N intake kit on a 2016 5.3L is obnoxious when towing. Not sure if it added any power but it sure makes a lot of noise towing my 7x23 trailer and boat. I'm probably going to put the stock air box back in the truck.

If you need a new exhaust I'd up grade it. Make sure it's at least 409 stainless tho it will last for ever. I'd also keep it a single, duals can be a pain. One is always crooked lol

All the dangles are on the OEM intake for a reason. If your sensitive to sound don't do a full intake. Performance gains a minimal. Compared to a drop in.

I'd suggest a magnaflow also.. just a preference I've installed lots of both.. gains on exhaust are minimal also it's more about the sound with gassers. Like I said you get a quality 409 s/s kit it will last for the life of the truck.

I've been in a 350 suburban with the flow master duals while towing for 10 hrs. Friggin drone will drive you insane. Best vehicles i've been with while towing is the stock exhaust system, or at least a quiet dual system.

Not sure about the older 5.3L but the 2016 L83 in my truck gets pretty substantial gains with a nice Intake/Exhaust, similar to my LSX in my WS6 as its similar technology.
Just don't care to do it.

This is one of the reasons I would go for a magnaflow. Chambered mufflers can cause alot of drone at crusing speeds.

...Stinki.....
In my opinion there is alittle clever marketing and placebo effect with this stuff. Might see 10hp on the top end..... Maybe

Cat back Exhaust is for sound
The benefit of a k&n is it's the last filter you will have to buy...

At the same time every little bit counts.

I saw a video where they dynoed a 5.3 before and after putting a cold air intake and it picked up like 15 rear wheel HP. It was a newer 5.3, but that was dang impressive. I forget exactly which brand cold air intake it was however. I would certainly consider one of those because that is a pretty big bang for the buck.

To the OP if you do anything you should consider a tune from someone like Blackbear performance. I've been running my 11 GMC with a 6.2l and Blackbear, with k&n intake for over 100000 miles now. Turned it into a different truck. Well worth the $250 for the tune.
