There is some truth to the bearing thing. They went to a cylindrical roller bearing. The inner race of the bearing is the crankshaft now. The outer race is held only by the interference fit of the case. The concerns are valid. How bad are they? We don't know yet. There's no damn snow! I really hope for everyone that bought a 850 this only an isolated few problems.

Cat uses the same bearing setup and its been bulletproof.
Its also kind of funny that now he uses a twin pto bearing when he was one of the guys that pushed the single wide bearing years ago.I never bought into that wide bearing thing nor did my crank builder.Always figured that two bearings would oil better between them and two bearings are better than one.The bottom end on my "junk"01 xc 800 had about 14,000 mi. on it when I sold it the thing and I never even opened it up.

Oh the drama! Doo talkers getting off talking about all the 840's going to shit. What a bunch of BS. I would imagine there will be a few engine problems this year on a few sleds, nothing catastrophic. The way a bunch of HCS posters were talking a week or two ago I was terrified to start my new XC 850 and then shut it off for fear it wouldn't start. Never had any issues. Keep things in perspective there are a lot of people who love to stir the shit and send BP readings through the roof!
I am looking forward to a great riding season.

Many great post on the 850 facebook page with many successful miles. All reports have been extremely positive.

So lets rewind the clock, Ski doo releases their 850, as soon as they hit the snow people claimed they were burning up on the trail and eating belts like they were candy. My 3 brothers all ride 850 doo variants and they have all been bulletproof. Original belt on one over 4k. Did a few have problems, yes, were they a bust , an emphatic no.
My point being don't believe the hype, Fake News, new Polaris means big target for every shit stirrer in or out of the country.

If this was the problem Dan says, don't you think it would have surfaced in the supposed 4 years of field testing? I'll believe it when I see it.

Now, did these individuals who had bearing failures use the recommended VES oil?

I'll take all this with a grain of salt. I work with a number of Engineers and there's always a difference of opinions between them and most have points that they use to back their opinions up. Actual testing and real world use will answer any questions or alter opinions. I'll wait for the snow to ride my sled which normally is between 3000 to 4000 miles per year.
