Default How much is everyone losing buying a new sled every year?

looking for cost per mile ridden.. if you rode 2000 miles and you took a 2000 dollar hit, it cost you 1 dollar per mile. MOT LOOKING FOR FUEL , OIL,OR MAINT COSTS

Ya anyone that tells you "hey it hardly costs me anything" is lying. You loose about 4 to 5 grand. and given the current market situation a lot more. They are giving away sleds now. Heck gas is a buck 40 a gallon today. Best bet is keep whatever you buy for about 6 or 7 years

I find you have to go 2 years at least to make the loss acceptable. A $13,000 sled, ride two years hopefully at least 2500 miles a year, with 5k miles on it you are lucky to sell for $7500.

You'll always have a loss. Especially if you ride a lot. If you keep a sled for 5 years and do 2500 miles a year that sled will be worth scrap metal prices when you want to sell. It's a consumable.

Leftover sleds just KILLS the used sled market. Why spend good money on a 1 year old used sled when you can get the same thing brand new with warranty from a dealer who doesn't want to store the sled for another summer?

Maybe Arctic Cat's spring order only strategy will help this.

I am in that debate now too, when is the ideal time/mileage to sell?

I have a 2019 XF9000 with 11000kms and ride 6k a year. I can trade in for 2021 TCat, would cost me $7100 inc tax to trade up. So that works out to $1550 per 1000kms.
If I wait till another year or two what will that number be?
Eventually, the $$ seems to plateau. I see 20 yr old sleds still between 2 to 3k.

Traded in my 2015 ZR 6000 LXR last spring on a 2020. I got $4,600 on trade. I paid just over $8,000 out the door when I bought it in 2016. Less than a grand a year for me. I could have sold the sled out right for about $5,500 if I would have kept it till fall. 3500 miles on that sled.

if I figure price per year I find trading a sled after 5-6years is best, providing I keep it in good shape.
