I'm going to go a slightly different direction. I'd say look for a 600 ACE. We have one in the fleet and it is a sweetheart of a sled. Starts every time, if in time it's not the engine choice for you, sell it for what you paid for it. No worry type sled. Just add gas, change the oil every 3-4 years or 5,000 miles.

Not sure if one can be had cheap enough but Cat also makes a small HP 4-stroke around 60hp. ZR3000? that would also be a great choice in the pro-cross or possibly an 1100NA?

I love hopping on the 850's, but it's also a blast to try and hang with the 8's on a 60hp sled.

600 Rev or 500 Sno Pro. IQ > Twin Spar but the two options I offered are better than either. If anyone recommends an Edge they are a moron

also a matter of preference - e.g do you want a comfortable trail cruiser, a sled that handles flat & sharp - or something more playful and lively?

For a comfortable, warm, smooth, dependable, ease of use trail sled hands down the Cat F Series in the LXR model is the best option. As far as model just depends on what you want for power and speed. The lower 500-600 cc models are ok for lower trail cruising but not great if the speed gets up or you get into some soft or snowy trails. The 1100 turbo has all the power and speed you could ever need but are very heavy. That leaves the 800 and 1000. I had a 1000 and loved it but it is a beast to pull start when it's cold. If it's cold enough the e start won't turn it over so it's pull or no go. That leaves in my opinion the best option is the 800.

Well... couldn't wait. 2010 AC F8 3400mi. has been purchased. keeping my fingers crossed as anyone would do in buying a used sled or whatever. I won't be able to ride it for at least three weeks due to work but I am looking forward to it for sure. Now the question is what do I do with Gladyis? And will she get jealous?

Looks nice. See it's the LXR which is very smooth. Good luck I'm sure you will love it. Don't forget they only like hightest fuel.

How can you tell the difference between models by the picture?

Pretty hard to beat a 2005 600 xc sp that hasn't been beat to death. They amaze me every year how well they still run.
