Default slp gen2 pipe on edge

So, I have a gen 2 slp pipe for my 99 rmk. I want to put it on my 01 xc 700, non valve engine. I have the y pipe, pipe and muffler. The muffler won't work, and I want to run it into the stock muffler anyhow. I haven't removed the stock pipe/y pipe to see for sure yet, but it appears it will mostly work. It appears the outlet that goes into the muffler will come up a bit short to make it. If I extended the outles, say cut off the end, and add the required section of the same diameter of pipe to make it reach, will that screw up the tuning of the pipe? I have seen a lot of applications where the outlet section is quite long. I don't claim to be a pipe designer, but understand how it works. Its the expansion chamber and the size of the outlet that is what is the most important right? If I added say 3 inches to the outlet section, of the same diameter, it shouldn't change anything really, or am I mistaken. Thanks for any insight.

What about moving the oem muffler forward to meet the pipe you want to use? Myself I would do that before I modded the pipe. There is plenty of room in a edge belly pan outlett to do this. I did it once on both a gen 2 and a edge.

Not a bad idea. Might be easier. I have to mock it up to see how it all fits.

stinger outlet and length are critical to pipe tune. now a twin into a single pipe is more forgiving. it still makes a difference. rule of thumb don't mess with these two things. unless you have access to a dyno for testing? only way to know for sure. better off making it reach the ex. can like said.

You might not be gaining anything,or actually losing hp.That particular stock rmk pipe made around 8hp over the stock pipe when placed on an 800.I went through all this back in 01 with my 800.

I guess I am not following? My rmk with that pipe on it was really strong. 220 cylinders, slp air box, bored carbs, etc. It would pull hard on stock 800's of the era. When I got it the clutching was sorta lame too, straight 36 helix, silver blue, in 3, 19/39 gears and 64 gram weights with a almond blue.

I always thought those pipes were good for a good gain. It was a 700 specific pipe. Are you saying they were the same for an 800? I do know I have a stock edge 800 pipe for a ves deal, and its virtually identical to my 700 non ves stock pipe. The mount is a bit different but could be made to fit. I believe the mount makes up for the difference in angle of the cylinders with the valves vs no valves.

To add, the mufflers are the same. The stock 700 non valved 01 edge muffler was identical to the valved, 800 edge muffler. I used the 800 muffler to replace the shot 700 muffler.
