Per DNR: A 3 X 3 decal required to be permanently affixed to the bottom
center portion of the snowmobile windshield. If no windshield is
available, the pass may be displayed in a highly visible location that
is forward of the operator

Should be fine.

I think that's for the trail pass not registration where 2 stickers are used left and right sides.

That's where I have mine on my Arctic Cat, had them on 3 procross sleds and never had an issue. I also put the trail pass under the windshield as I use 2 different ones.

Should be fine .... ultimately depends on the day and the LEO you might encounter. Some of them are fellow sled heads & just like to talk shop, and others are a bit more "rules driven".

We came upon a group of about 15 on Saturday. South of Iron River, intersection of 31 & 18. Realized LEO was there, but he was walking across trail with a camera. He was taking a group photo of the whole crew! When I realized it was CEO, I pointed down to my trail sticker(since on side and not on windshield), but he didn't even look!

Where did you put the trail pass? On the hood?

Yeah, right under the headlight. You can see it in the pic above. Only went by one warden in the last couple years but he was checking and he waved me by.
