Default Seniors say Goodbye to NEK

Well, after 51 years of riding, Ed and Lil Loring have decided that last week was their last trip to Island Pond Vt. Although they did well and covered more than 400 miles from Sunday to Friday, it was just too much for them at 86, and 85 years old. We had some great riding during the week, and made Pidgeons for lunch every day. The groomers did a great job for them as always, as the cold weather was perfect for morning riding on white carpet out of Island Pond. My mothers favorite trail 111B was perfect on Thursday morning, and 111, 114N was also groomed great for dad to create first ski marks. "His favorite time". They will miss all in the area that they ate breakfast with every morning at 8am sharp!
On a side note I finally got to meet the elusive 1/4 Mile Dave Cassey on the trip after many years of conversing with him.

Better than me!! Not sure if I would want to be riding at 75 years old , never mind 85!
God Bless them and I am happy they got one last good ride in.

Incredible run! I can only imagine the changes they've seen in snowmobiling and winters over all those years. What sleds did they first have?

The first were 1971 Polaris Mustangs
two cylinder 488cc 32hp machines
30" wide track with u-shaped channel cleats. They would go anywhere!

That's Ed and Lil in the middle and me at age 10 on the right.

My wife and I first met Ed and Lil 6 or so years ago. It was at one of those 8am breakfasts. They were so friendly and welcoming. That evening was the Brighton club fundraiser and Lil invited us to sit with them at the event. We have been friends ever since, only seeing each other once a year about this time. They have logged tons of miles, their current 2005 Polaris's have over 20,000 miles on them. They put all their many miles on while living in Kingston, MA which is down near Cape Cod. That is Cranberry country and that is the business they have been in all their lives. Had the pleasure of finally meeting in person their sons Dale and Ed (hcssnowman) this past weekend. We certainly wish them the best and will miss our visits, but you never know, maybe we will pay them a visit someday
