Default 2007 switchback 600 cfi tossed rod

MY sled needs a new motor. IT tossed a rod and took the crankcase with it.

Debating used vs rebuild vs rebuild it myself.

I am very well versed with engines, but new to large two stroke rebuilds.

The sled is in good shape, but has about 7500 miles. No issues I know of with the EFI. I had a bad intake boot, but replaced it recently. Think I might of had engine issues with the lean condition.

I have a 2010 iq touring 600 too.

Just debating how to go, worth investing on old sled. Track is ok, need a wheel or two down there. Hood got beat up from a crash, but everything works electrically.

What years motors can I put in there used.

I can get a rebuilt crankcase for $550. I think the guy repairs broken crankcases by welding. Which between replated cylinders and forged pistons I am around $1300-1400. This is without doing anything to the injection pump or water pump.

Anything else I should do? Replace the fuel filter. what about cleaning injector or testing fuel pressure after the rebuild. water pump rebuild kit? new head bolts like with most automobiles today?

Clutch worked ok before the motor died, but probably could be freshened up.

I drive groomed trails often +/-35 mph with my wife. But I do get on the throttle, quick dash to 60mpoh or so. No bonzai runs on the lakes at 100mph for me.

Work part seems fine with me. Just on the fence on what to do. Plan B is top scrap for parts, drive the other sled for awhile, then buy a good used sled ands gamble again..... Or a new sled in 2 or 3 years.... Depending on the adirondack NY winters, I put 1000-1500 a year on a sled. I was pretty happy with the power of the sled, but could do small things to make it better......
