Does anyone know where I can purchase a pair of Walker Evans Velocity front shocks? They come standard in the rear of the new Indy XC but not on the front. I was so impressed with these shocks when we demo'd the sled back in Feb, that I'm looking to install them on the front of my new XC. I know the '18 and up IQR's have them but can't find anyone who sells them. Here's some info about them:
Walker Evans Velocity Shocks Introduced on Polaris 600R Race Sled
The biggest improvement on these shocks over the standard WEs is the position of the piggyback resevoir. Mounted much lower on the shock body, the resevoir is now below the full travel of the shock piston. This allows the shock to have two very different performance ranges; plush for the first bit of travel to be compliant in the small chatter bumps but stiff once the piston has travelled past the resevoir orifice. Imagine a shock that can be set up soft for comfort and ease of powder carving but still has the ability to absorb the big hit from that drop you just pounded without bottoming.
As an added bonus, this low mounting of the resevoir allows the Polaris engineers to turn the shock 180 degrees and hang the piggyback on the INSIDE, close to the bulkhead. This helps centralize the weight (one of Polaris favourite buzzwords) as well as help to protect the piggyback from damage. Snocrossers need this protection because “rubbing is racing”, but this will work equally well for the tree riders among us who don’t like hitting expensive shiny parts with sticks.
They sent my shocks Fedex and required a signature, which for me I'm at work everyday and made it difficult. Easy solution was to have them shipped to the local Walgreens store which is a fedex hub, but it cost me a day in transit.
Yah when I chatted with them they said they needed to get a bunch of race stuff out. After we talked and discussed where I wanted to be with shim stack, im sure there was some internal R&D discussion on building a badass piece to match the velocity rear-end on this XC. Im in no hurry, plenty of time...
I was told they are backed up and will be late November at the earliest , but I'm getting several sets for G4 Doo's and lengths/ stroke are not off the shelf parts.
Yes I ran them for 2 yrs on the ‘17 XCR and about 4500 miles. I had them custom valved as well. Im anxious to see if the trail ride front to back on the Indy is the best yet?!
The guys at Walker are awesome to chat/deal with. Bout $975 shipped.
If you have to ask that question you dont know what your looking at. Read Lenns post #1.
If you are happy where you are at then ride on.
In my case, I played with the XCR for 2 seasons. For the Indy I wanted the front to match the velocity rear. The selling point to me with the indy was the velocity rear. If this sled doesnt perform as well or better then the XCR then Ill go back to it. I loved that sled, BUT it took alot of tinkering to make it great. That is if Polaris doesnt keep dropping/changing models on us.
Lenn, northstar stated that he had ordered the 600r a-arm but didnt give the part number. Nobody has yet answered if they will fit the Axys front. Ive got the velocity bolted up to stock a-arms as of now.
600R upper a-arm won't fit. not even close. so shocks will have to be mounted with the reservoir to the outside. we have these on a customers sled stock 600R valving to get a base.
Velocity shocks are in for my Indy XC 850. These babies will be going on the front of my sled once I pick it up from the dealer. (this coming week). I'll report back once I've got some seat time. My cousin Dan Johnson has the exact sled so we will be able to switch back and forth to compare.
All Indy XC's come with Velocity shocks (2) in the rear skid. The fronts are just standard WE needle shocks. So answer is: only need them up front to complete the package. Hopefully Polaris will offer this as a snowcheck option in the future.
I'm sorry I said I was putting XCR shocks in. I meant I got hi/low shocks like on the XCR. My dealer said he could get a big body hi/low shock that would fit the FTS shock so that's what I ordered. I get my sled tomorrow and the shocks should be in sometime in the next week. I will let you know how it works out.
Yes, I am purchasing them through a Polaris dealer. My father and I each purchased 2 IFS and 1 FTS shock at $975 for each set. I was told $325 each. I haven't actually picked them up yet as we are still waiting on 1 FTS shock to come in from order.
First ride this weekend up in Old Forge. Im 290lbs geared up. The new velocity shocks on the front are the best I have ever ridden. Had a 2015 Pro X Rush, 2017 XCR Rush custom setup shocks. No comparison. The guys at Walker sent them with high/lo both set at 8. I ended the weekend at hi 3 and low 5. I will play some more but these were absolutely amazing on some really rough trail saturday afternoon. Now for the rear end that is a different story. Gonna take some work to get the rear to match the fronts. The spin dials without clicks is an interesting setup. Kind of a PITA in the field packed with snow and ice. Ill have to try and figure out were I am in regards to the top end of full hard and range left. I wasnt feeling playing much more in the -minus degree temps.
I ran a set of rears with 400 miles on them on my shock dyno. The center is very soft on compression and the rear arm is very soft on rebound. I think anyone over 240 would benefit from stiffer rear springs and shock valving work.
Saw your sled at the drags Saturday and noticed the shocks right away. Glad you like them wonder if this will be the shocks for a xcr in the 129 xc chassis?
I would think they would stick with the upgraded hi/lo walkers the XCR ships with now. I doubt the bean counters would ship the new XC with velocity. For the majority of the population they meet the requirement.
