I like it... Yamaha deserves some credit for this high tech turbo four stroke motor. For the guys that like speed this sled is bad ass combination of hyper power in a good handling chassis. This motor makes most other motors look like string trimmer motors...

Yamaha, Doo and Cat are all doing a decent job of utilizing cross-platform motors. Snowmobiles have a hard time selling enough units to pay for a modern engine R&D program. It is both good and bad. Good in that a low volume sled doesn't need to pay for a new engine on its own, bad in that the engines won't be optimized for sleds. I expect it to continue and expand.

I'm thinking Yamaha will introduce their own chassis and maybe bring back the SRX name on something for their 50th anniversary. That would be the perfect time for something huge from Yamaha. I hope anyways. It will also give them a year of feedback on the new motor which will determine my next new sled as well.

If you honestly believe Yamaha will come out with their own chassis why would they have partnered with cat in the first place ?

I'd say the most likely thing is AC actually designs their next chassis around the motor. Not a retrofit, but a clean sheet design made to take the 998 to the next level. Bet they are already working on it.

As it is, it just keeps getting better and better. But why on earth would they take such drastic steps every year? They have to get their money back from the one they just spent 5 years working on. 2020 sounds about right for the next big thing.

Im curious how it will run vs my 2016 viper xtx turbo. But yes the name is retarded. why not call it the viper with a newly redesigned engine?

And then what would they call the Viper?

I don't think Sidewinder is any more ghey the Viper. Which is pretty ghey.

Interestingly I believe ACat owns the Sidewinder name from their ownership of Scorpion from the old days.
