Working on a friends 800,last spring we changed handle bars with another kill switch. And changed all fuel lines and fuel filter it seemed to run good. With the exception of hand warmers didnt work.
Now this year it wouldnt start unless we poured fuel into cylinders, after three or four times of that it finally ran on its own,but only on 2 cylinders.we were looking at fuel lines and there is alot of air in the lines with the gas. thinking that fuel pump is going out,not getting enough fuel..does a fuel pump get weak or just go out.or look else where???
Always start on the easy item.Do you have spark?? With lot of bubbles in the fuel line, obvoiusly means that you maybe sucking air. Your fuel pump may be on its way out. Check the fuel lines on the fuel pump along with the crank case pressure line. It will be right under the carbs, next to the oil pump. Make sure it is on. If you don't have vacuum, you won't have fuel.
You can test it with a vacuum gauge. Disconnect the fuel line from the fuel pump inlet and connect a vacuum gauge to the fuel pump inlet. Be sure the float bowls are full and run the engine between 2000-3000 rpms for 30 seconds. You should get a vacuum reading between 7 and 10" of vacuum. What is the condition of the impulse lines? Have they been replaced with 3/16" line?
If you don't find anything there check for carb problem, crank seal, or base gasket problem.
Make sure it has over a 1/2 tank to rule the pickup out
The blue fuel line has a natural curve to it and can stick out
of the fuel inside the tank
I always take and heat the line to get the curve out and make it lay flat
what are the impulse lines, and i dont have vacume tester are they reasonably priced, and what kind.
when I pull off fuel line, and bloe threw it theres gas.
I will also look at the 3/16 line on carbs..
Its just a rubber line that goes to the pump and to the crankcase. You can get them at a hardware store. Pumps should be vary reasonable. Any kind will work. If all is original its a good idea to replace all the lines before you get stranded.
ill check it out.I believe it also was replaced last year thow..Just dont remember what material was used.Thanxs dont have time today ill look tomarrow, when i get home..
