Just wondering if there are any issues with the 2008 Polaris IQ Turbo LX models. The dealer has one brand new and I really want to replace my old sled.

I currently have a 2004 Polaris Supersport 550 and I have had it with this fan motor issues. The last two seasons I had a piston go on me and I want something reliable so I'm not stuck out on the trails waiting for a tow.

Feel free to recommend a sled. I don't care about brand names as long as it works. All my riding is done on the trail and I just like to cruise. I'm not out there for speed.
I know I want it to be liquid cooled and 4 stroke. I'm told the 4 stroke is better on gas and maintenance.

All I can say is my father bought this sled, and he got a complete lemon. A LOT of lost riding time due to break downs. However, the fact that he got a lemon, is just that.

Problems with the IQ Turbo LX are not the norm, and when this sled runs, it is incredibly smooth, and incredibly fast. This sled will run with (or go by) the 800's all day on the lake.

Super quiet, to quiet for me, not even a nice tone through the power band, just sounds like a mini four stroke Honda generator. So quiet you can hear the track moving through the skid. SLEEPER.

Personally I think you're better off with a 600 CFI then the FST. I've owned/own both. Here are some issues with the FST from my experience. Engine management/electronics (not optimized). I had my "check engine" light come on numerous times with these sleds and the codes they send don't make sense all the time. When riding in snow dust (when ever your following someone or it's snowing) the sensor in the airbox will get iced up and send a code to the computer and check engine light will pop on. I had two FST models 07 IQ and 07 cruiser both struggled to break 100 mph on the speedo. That being said, I also ride with a couple of other guys with FST's and they both run around 112 - 117mph and they both way near the same weight as me and we've gone through my sleds trying find why mine didn't top end like theres with no avail. Sled builds a ton of heat under the hood due to the turbo and exhaust, when temps were 15 deg or warmer out I would have to ride with my boots hanging out the side of the sled (not tucked up into the stirrups) because my feet felt like they would melt if I left them in the stirrups! Belt temps are also very warm do to all the heat around the clutches, this doesn't make for long life of a spendy belt! Polaris cheapened up the M10 skid in 06 or 07 so it doesn't ride very well compared to previous versions and doesn't have near the adjustment as an actual M-10 skid. Front torque arm on the Polaris equiped M10 skids is prone to breakage/cracking and can make a mess of your skid/track if it lets go!!! WEIGT - can't get away from the front end weight of a four stroke!!! The FST is so quiet that you do hear the track at trail speed over the motor noise. So much so that it was extremely annoying for me - there was a constant growl/howl from the track the just resonated in my helmet and gave me a head ache when I drove my FST IQ (cruiser wasn't as bad for some reason)?

My 600 CFI equipped sleds get within 10ths of a gallon at fill ups when driven the same mileage and speeds as the FST's. Much lighter/nimbler on the trails and my 600CFI's sip oil so it's not really an issue. Top end performance was a wash as my FST weren't one of the "fast" ones... My experience has been better with the 600CFI's then the FST's.
I think my best riding trail sled was my wifes 04 600 classic with a true M-10 skid - edge skid with a tall windshield is a warm trail sled. IQ sleds with a 16" high windshield is still a very cold sled compared the the edge skid just because of the narrowness of the cowl and in affective windshield.

Good luck with your search but that's been my experience - hope it helped....

I have the 08 FST Dragon that I bought last year as a leftover and put 2500 trouble free miles on it.I am not a big fan of the M10 suspension because of my aggressive riding style. The front swing arm in the M10 is a problem because they do break in the FSTs.I don't think weight is an issue at all.I ride with a lot of light weight 2 smokes and I can out ride most of them in the tight and twistys. There is a lot of room for improvement in the weight department but after a 300 mile day on a rough trail I felt great and ready for another 300 mile day.I think the turbo lx is a trail cruiser and a better choice would be a FST Dragon or a FST switchback.Just remember that every sled is the best sled in the world until it has problems then its a piece of junk in some eyes.Change scares some people but to me its a new challenge. There is a lot more info at polarisfiles.com

FYI,

The bean counters saved some money and the FST DONOT have a low oil sensor although the MFG has the light and the harness has the wire.

They saved $1.50 and improved their spare parts business. Mine is in the shop right now 6 weeks out of warrantee.

They do sell a new long block for almost $6900.oo
