Why are there different part numbers for the running board grip plates?. I have some on my F5 and they fit fine, I want to put some on my F7, but I am coming across a couple of different part numbers. Anyone know what the difference is?

Which plates the ones that fit flat on the floor board or the ones that go over the edge of the board. If it is the style that goes around the board there are 2 styles. 1 is closed along the edge and the other has small openings.[/b]

There is only one part number, 3639-160, for the grips in the current accessory catalog. These say they fit from 2003 - 2006. There are some other part numbers listed on eBay that say they only fit the 2003-2005, but not the 2006. What's up with this?. They are a about 1/2 the price too.

They make flat grip plates that go where your feet go on the running boards and they make the edge grips that are a strip that run along the outside edge of the tunnel in two variations (one with holes in it and one without). That makes three types of added traction. They are not compatible with each other as far as I know. The plates would be under the edge grips and you need to rivet in the same place, so you have to choose one or the other. The outside edge long strip grips look better, but the plates work better because they are under where your boots actually sit most of the time. It's up to you.

Of the two long strip types, I would suggest the cross country type with holes in it to save weight. You don't need material on the outside edge anyways, just the top where your boots touch.

The strips that go over the outer edge look like they would give you some protection on your heat exchanger. I just found out that all around the footing of your sled is where your coolant runs through, correct me if I'm wrong. Coolant seems to me to be a pretty vital part of the engine. Has anyone had any issue with this getting damaged or puncturing a hole in it. If so then I would go with the Strips for the added protection.

BTW good thread. Reminded me to go get some footing grips. Havent decided which yet though.

The edge grips might be a great idea. I have seen plenty of sleds with marks on their running board edges from scraping against things. I don't have any first hand experience with them. My sled that I bought used has rivet holes from the edge grips, and now it has the plates on it,so somebody must have preferred the plates to the edge grips. I can't argue with that, so I'll leave the foot plates on it.

Not exactly correct- I have both on my sno-pro. They look fine & will fit together, just may need longer rivets on the piece that goes over the exchanger...Can provide pics if you need them
