Full Version: 136 rails on switchback skid?

Polaris should have offered a 136 option on the switchback for us flatlanders.
Will 136 rails bolt right on the 144 switchback skidframe?
Are there 136 tipped up rails available?

My fatherinlaw's 2001 RMK 600 has 136 tipped up rails on a xtra lite skidframe.

I thought the various rail length options on the Xtra lite RMk skids located the rear scissor arm in different locations depending on the length to avoid having too much leverage from rail length behind the scissor arm?

I would love to bolt on 136in rails and track to a switchback, particularily tipped up rails.

I didn't think Polaris used Dual Angle rails on the Xtra-Lite Suspension. With the Dual Angle Rails on the 144, You won't gain much by going to a 136" rail and track, other than maybe 5% less track weight which would have a minor effect on acceleration.

I totally disagree. If that's what you want, throw a set of rail extensions under a Fusion. The '06 SB 6HO is going to be the solid rock out of Polaris this year.

I agree about the 600 HO any configuration this year!!

However. The reality of my discretionary spending this year makes a leftover 03SKS7 new with reverse @ $ 6700 CDN $ pretty attractive.
Factor in that I A. love the Edge chassis
B. Hate the Team clutch!
C. love the 700 motor

This noncurrent SKS is callin me!
Sadly my riding area is mostly very hardpack trail and little snow to boot.
I believe the longer skid length will ride well and I do go north for a week vacation avery year where it is all deep snow and off trail and lake riding...right to Hudson bay if I want!

I believe 136in is the right length for me. I would be prepared to swap the track and rails as I could easily sell the 144 stuff.
However if the swap involves anything more than direct bolton it is likely more hassle and $ than it's worth.

I appreciate the input and comments guys.....please keep er comin.
Need/want to make a deal soon.

Thanks

Get the rails from an '02 600 rmk as it was a 136" track. They'll bolt right up, get a Ripsaw track if you run buncha hardpacked trails.

Just so long as the reverse is a mechanical reverse. The PERC update kit for that sled used a TEAM roller secondary.

The 136" rails for the '02 600/700 RMK are:
1541668 LH $170US
1541669 RH $170US

The '04 thru '06 RMK's have a 136" rail with the Dual Angle/Dual Purpose feature.

Anyone have any idead how much top end and acceleration you loose between a 136 and 144 x15x1.25 everything else equal?

Is 5% a good number.?

I owned a 2002 600 RMK with a 136, all my riding buddies have RMKs with 144's and a few switchbacks with 144's all in the EDGE chassis. We would frequently switch off and you did not even notice the difference between the 144 or 136's handling wise. There might be a performance benifit from the 136 but if you are looking for performance why by a long track sled in the first place? I say keep the 144 and buy yourself some performance parts instead. Just my opinion.

I am thinking the same thing. The performance different cannot be huge. dunno.gif
