how do you tell if you pump is aligned right when looking at it with the notches. it on a 04 800

There is a score mark on the pump housing and one on the pump arm. They should line up with the throttle at rest

aligning the marks at idle is by the book. i have had better luck and longer lasting cranks by aligning the marks at full open throttle. as stated, the oil pump has an indicator mark cast into it, but the arm has two marks. aligning at full open throttle will use a little more oil, but oil is cheaper than cranks.
