A kid at my school got this moose, I've seen cows with something like this but not as bad, but never on a wild animal. ooh4.gif

WOW!! That's obviously a sick animal. Hope he dosn't have to waste a tag or permit on that. Should be considered a mercy killing. Must have had some type of chronic waste disease as it looks emancipated and evidently couldn't even travel enough to wear down it's hoofs. Like you said I've seen that on mistreated farm animals that never leave their stall but never on a wild animal. Really strange. Don't think I'd be to excited to eat that one. head_hurts.gif

Here's a nice healthy Maine moose taken this season.

Could that possibly be a moose that was confined?

Any more info, like was it hunted at an outfitters. Or in which region.

This is what he posted: I do not know if anyone has seen this before in a Moose. We got it Monday afternoon and when we shot it it was standing in a puddle. To our surprise Santa also employs some moose. It was around a 400 pound cow shot on the Beaver Brook road just outside of Ashland.

i see at least 6 to 900 mooses a year and never saw something like that .my brother in law is a professional guide for moose hunting and i dont think he saw something like that !!!

is that thing still eatable. i dont know if i would trust eating somthing like that.

I saw a video on a hunting show of a doe whitetail deer that had all four hooves like that. It would pick its feet way up in the air with each step that it took. looked real wierd. They said it was painful for the deer. I think it is a growth problem where the hooves grow too fast for them to wear them down.
Highly unlikely that anything would be wrong with the meat.

Holy chit Groomer. You see 800 moose in a year!

They had an article in the paper on that elf moose a few months back. It had been in the area for a few years. A number of hunters had reported seeing a moose with elf like hooves. They said it was taken in the county so obviously it must be the same one of his friend said Ashland Maine.

yes ,this is no jokes !!!where i live it s the best spot in the province to see mooses.we have the duniere reserve and park matane those 2 have the best pourcentage for mooses killing in pq .always between 90 and 100 %.also we have the zec ,( controlled exploitation zone) .i can t remember, park matane have 3.2 mooses per km square and almost the samething for the duniere reserve and the zec a little bit lower.my best ,is 94 mooses in 3 hrs.if you go there on a good morning ,youcan see 50 mooses an hour, no problems with that .it hard to believe ,but it s true.one morning there was 16 in the same clearcut !!!!in 2000 over 900 !!!and you have the gaspesie park too.it happened 4 times last summer,2 female s mooses, one of the 2 put is head completely inside the cab of my truck ,up to the helper side seat.it was amazing !!!2 years ago ,face to face with 2 bucks.6 feet from my truck !!both were mad at me ,happened in september.i could tell you many stories !!!

my brother in law work there since at least 10 years as a professional guide.love it !!!!!i think it s in 2004 ,he was guiding a guy ,and the guy wounded a buck .so he went in the deep forest and surprise !!there was 7 bucks together and he has been charged by one of them .luckily he lay down on the ground and did nt move .last may ,a guy working for the duniere took picture of a female .he did not know she had a little one (can t find the word in english).so he took pics ,approach the female and took pictures again.he was a little closer to the female and he realized she was mad at him (i always look at the ears and eyes ).he did not have time to turn around and run for his pick up truck .she just bulldozed him into the ditch.the guy has been knocked out and woke up half a hour later or a hour !! can t remember !! :beerchug:

about 5 years ago my old man shot a small bull with hoofs like that it was pretty crazy looking some people tried to say that it always stayed on bogs and never walked on hard surfaces. i dont believe it tho
