You may want to attend this meeting. It is my understanding that if the DNR does this, the snowmobile trails cannot open until one week after ....which is December 21st of each year. Very bad for snowmobiling.

1. They will be discussing the antlerless 4 day season that could last as late as Dec. 14th.
Hearings scheduled for
2006 deer hunting rule changes
1. MADISON – People around Wisconsin will have an opportunity to comment on proposed hunting regulations changes for 2006, including an experimental two-year suspension of the October gun deer hunting season known as Zone T, at a series of public hearings around the state in October.
The proposals were authorized for public hearing by the Natural Resources Board at its August meeting in Spooner.
Wildlife officials, working with hunting, agricultural, conservation and other user groups, developed the proposal to suspend Zone T hunting, on a trial basis, to determine if a revised hunting season structure would adequately control overabundant state deer populations.
The proposal package also includes a statewide 4-day antlerless-deer-only gun hunt in December and eliminates the hunter’s choice permit program in favor of antlerless deer tags valid in regular (non-quota) deer management units as additional deer. Background information on the proposals up for comment at the hearings can be accessed through the Wisconsin Administrative Rules Web site.
The meetings are scheduled to run from 6:30 to 10 p.m. with a formal presentation at 6:30 p.m. followed by a comment period beginning at 7 p.m. on the following dates at the locations listed:
Oct. 11
Eau Claire - Room M103 (auditorium), Chippewa Valley Technical College, 620 W. Clairemont Ave.

Last year trails were opened the first week of December, they probably opened them a few days too early grinning-smiley-023.gif , 2003 they were opened by the 12th/13th. Our season is short enough as it is.... losing an extra week or so is.. losing and extra week or so of possible riding...

I rode like the first ir second week in december last year in hurley and there was plenty of snow! Everyone should attend this though, with out our support were gonna lose our sport! Damn just reread the thread and i already missed the meeting in my area, arrg :banghead:

dont get me wrong,I know once they make our season a week,we will most likely not ever get it back. My only point is I dont remember having enough snow/frozen mud to ride on that early in Wi the last few years.

I was closing my Cabin in Rhinelander last year on December 6th. My wife and I drove (car) upto Eagle River to see if the trails were open and the conditions. Sure as shit, they were open and we saw 15-20 riders. They were having a good time on limited snow, but hell, they were riding. It's important they do ride as soon as snow is on the ground to help pack a base and freeze 'er up! If that / we have to wait until the 21st :augen41: that will really hurt the trail systems development. I'm going to one of the meetings thats for damn sure :div20:

We duscussed this at our last club meeting in Iron County. The opinion was that Iron (Hurley) would not be affected. I'll know more soon.

SnoKing, how or why would Iron County (Hurley) not be affected??

The trails up here are deeded from the landowners for use between DEC 1st thru March 31st. You can still ride at your own risk but the insurance for the clubs and the state reimbursement doesnt begin till the 15th generally.

There has been enough snow to ride early dec the past couple of years!!!! We go to Hurley for the red light ralley, and always find snow... Sometimes not the best, but we still ride.... :banghead:
