Have any forum readers any experience with Boyesen reeds in the Evinrude Ficht outboard motors? We''ve run them in carb Johnson outboards since 1991 with zero failures, have run V-force in EFI sleds since 1998 and am hoping Ficht will respond the same. thanx

I do not think that it would be a good idea. Conventional outboards run the fuel -air mixture thorugh the reed assembly, so a better assembly will flow more fuel and air in the appropriate proportion.
However a ficht engine or merc DI only flow air through the reeds. The fuel is introduced directly into the combustion chamber. having more air flow in will lean out the mixture. ( And we all know what a lean mixture does to a two stroke!)
I'm not sure if the mass air flow sensor can compensate for the extra air. But I'm pretty sure if it doesn't your dealer will not warranty the blown engine with aftermarket reeds.
Just a thought!.

Hugh:
FICHT has always been a nightmare. If OMC couldn't make it right, how can you?
Think about it.
IMHO, FICHT was OMC's downfall. Trying to keep up with the Jones, too fast too soon.
A great outboard maker and industry standard, gone.

Warranty isn't a consideration, long since past. The V-6 Fichts have been a POS from the get-go. Alot of the V-4 Fichts out there humming along. I know the unit to be a runner, this is a 25 hour motor sitting on a Lund Pro-V SE thats been in the water a grand total of 4 times in 4 seasons. I was shopping new at $30,000, previous young owners dreams and payments were bigger than his wallet and I took it off his hands for 35-cents on the dollar. Sure I'd like to run right out and slap a 175 on it but if I can prop it and gain a little with reeds it will prolong the inevitable for awhile. If it eats itself, off it goes to salvage. Just like clutching, I like the challenge.
