NHSLEDDING
I have been checking other sites and have found that this is the old 600 motor that was in the 99-02 mxz chassis? Is that correct? If so what kind of fuel milage we talking? I heard power in the 105 HP range. I am looking into maybe getting the 500ss trail version of this sled without RER. I have had sleds for many years without reverse so Don't need it. The price is right on this also at 5949.00 Trail version. The Adrenaline version is 6749. The ony differance I can see is RER and better shocks on the Adrenalin.

I don't need a big fast sled, but I do see this to be a very popular sled this coming season!! So I want to get the ball rolling as to be getting myself a new sled this year!!

Thanks
Eric

Eric,
I had that motor in the 99 mxz. 7,000 miles without a hiccup in one season! 15+ mpg. Last winter the dealer gave me an '03 Legend 600 with this same motor to use for the weekend. Put on 600 miles and it ran awesome. Pulled about 100 on the speedo, got about 16 mpg. I'm on the fence about a REV, but if I do, its the 500SS for sure. Good luck.

I also had a 99 mxz,same results,not a single problem in 4000mi !!! plenty of power,this should be a great combo in the 500ss!! good luck !

The nice thing about this engine is that not only does it have exhaust valves, but it is priced like a 500 cc sled.

The lower price probably has to due with the HP rating of this 600.
rev it up
The 500ss is the best bang for the buck......That is for sure. :beerchug:

THE 500SS IS THE OLD 600 MOTOR I OWN A 2002 MXZX 600 AND THE ENGINE I THINK IS REALLY STRONG AND IS UNTOUCHABLE IN THE BOTTOM AND MID END IT IS REALLY A GREAT MOTOR AS LONG AS YOU HAVE STUDS!

Can somebody explain to me how ski-doo is able to put a 600 in a sled they call a 500
and race it in the 500 class? firecats_rule.gif
sxviper 1+2=3 cylinders
ya i'm with zare. i already knew about this, but never understood the reasoning. thats cheating...!
cmscat50
Who said they can race it in the 500 class. I'm sure they can't. Even if they do it will still be slower than almost all the 500's. frech11.gif

its still cheating calling a 600 a 500, even if it is the same power rating.

yamaha doesn't call my viper a 600, even though it has the same power as the f6 and rev6ho.... lol

No different than cat calling an 862 a 900 its only a name

i believe the bottom end of the engine is an origination of the 600 block. the piston travel equates to a 500 cc sled. same idea as the f6... 700 block with a 600cc stroke.

huh? No, it's a 600cc motor. The same motor they've been using for a few years now. Wife’s 2002 600 Legend has 5700 miles with out a problem. The SS is the same motor. Rock solid!

I was told by my dealer that they may be getting a couple of extra hp from the motor in the 500 SS because of new pipes. luxhello.gif
epoch
600HO: 115hp
500SS: 105hp

I'd say it's a pretty good bang for your buck... Plus, from what I've read on other forums, It's makin out to be a good competitor.
Hermanator2
should have called it the 500 shhhh  (dont tell anyone its a 600)

im sure it is a good sled, but why call it a 500?
csa500SS
I am a proud owner of a REV 500SS... sounds to me like the arctic cat boys are doing all of this complaining because they don't want their f6's to get beat by a little Ski-Doo 500... sorry boys the 500SS is coming for your f6 ass
Doo-Rider
it will take a F5, but i don't know about the 6.......... spam1.gif
