I have a 2002 ZR 600 efi CCthat runs great. I would like to improve the low to mid range performance. My current gears are 22-41. I am thinking of going to 21- 42 or 20-42. Does anyone have any recommendations. I am not concerned with top speed, only acceleration.

Your talkng about some pretty drastic gear reduction for your sled. Just remember that by going with what you want to, your going to have to try to capture the extra torque added to the track. Now there is going to be a limit on how much torque you can capture with your proposed setup. The rest of the power will be unused and wasted in track spin and your corner to corner times will suffer. You are proposing a change from 1.83 to either a 2 or 2.1 to 1 ratio. I clutched and geared my sled (02zr600cc) last winter and went with 20/41. or a 2.05, right between what you want. I can tell you the sled has a more responsive feel and really has power when you can hook up. The speedo still would push 90 with this gearing. This winter though, I am going to go back to a 21/41, or a 1.95 which I think ill be happier with. The 2.05 peaked too fast for my liking. Its up to you. Hope this helps a little.

Thanks Dankster,
I think I will try the 21/42 combination. Right now it hooks up real well with a 1 and 1/2 track and 96 studs. I just didn't want to get the 21/42 gears and then hope later that I got a higher ratio.
