3/4 pound ground beef
3/4 pound Italian Sausage
1 package pre-sliced pepperonis (optional)
1 1/2 to 2 cups prepared marinara or spaghetti sauce
1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 can (10-oz.) refrigerated pizza dough
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1 egg, beaten
1 tablespoon water
1/2 stick melted butter

Preheat oven to 400°F. Spray a baking sheet with vegetable cooking spray.

Brown beef and sausage in a medium, nonstick skillet. Drain off fat and transfer to a mixing bowl. Add marinara sauce and Italian seasoning; mix well. Season with salt and pepper.

Press dough into a large rectangle and cut out 4 large circles, about 8 inches in diameter; discard scraps. Place circles on prepared baking sheet and top each one with one-fourth of the meat mixture and sliced pepperonis (if you like pepperoni) followed by one-fourth of the cheese. Fold over one edge and press down to securely seal. Brush dough with a mixture of beaten egg and water. Bake for 15 minutes, or until crust is golden brown and filling is hot. LIGHTLY baste with melted butter 5 minutes before pulling out the calzones, and immediately after pulling them out of the oven.
