Considering a 01 ZR500 carb.

I am familiar with the chassis.
Looking to hear about any probs/issues with the motor such as powervalves etc?

It is very low mileage...1000 miles.

Reliable? Any updates or recalls? Powervalve issues?

Thanks

I have a 2000 ZR500 for the fiancee.......all I can tell you that the thing just rips! I've got around 2800 miles on it and no problems.

The only real weak point with those sled, are the PV. Some sled have problems with these.

Is there any preventative maintenance you can do that will stop this problem?

Yeah.. you can take them apart and replace the pins with better ones I think, I would defenatly do that with the low milage you have. I'm not all that familar with what they do to correct this problem, mine doesn't have PV, someone that has done this may be able to tell you more.

ya the power valve is the weak point. my brother has the 02 500 carb. it kicks! i asked the dealer about the power valve pins wearing out when he bought it and he said he never heard of this problem. this spring when i tore into the power valves for cleaning the pin was worn down .030 and you could see minor marks on the ring. from what i have read you can make a shim to prevent the pv from hitting the rings. im going to try it. cheap insurance.

Does that affect the 600s too dunno.gif

I don't think so. The 600 have a different valve design than the 500's 800's and 900's, and i don't think the valve will hit the piston, even if the pin wears out, or the cable breaks. The reason im saying this is because one of the cables frayed and eventually broke on my dads '02 zr600 and it never hit the piston; there was just a noticable loss of power. You should take the cover off the servomotor and make sure the cables are still on the pulley or arent fraying just in case. m2c.gif

I just change the pins. They are cheap and easy to replace when you clean the
valves. About 2000 to 2500 miles. On the 600 I clean every 1000 miles.
With EFI if the valves hang up you go into a reduced rpm mode even if you
disconnect the servo. Cant fool the computer as it looks for the ohnmic value
from the servo resister. The valves on the 600 are a gaint pain in the a...
The flat slides used in all others "f600,f700,800,900" are much better. My
answer to the problem is to buy another ZR900EFI 06. Use the 600 as back
up sled. My wife likes the 900 better any way. Doesnt have to pull the flipper
as far to go fast she tells me. GIRLS got to love um................
