just getting started, more pics of progress later..

Bent the tunnel last ride of the season..

Vanamburg is building me a 153 Phantom race tunnel i wont be able to post pics until the tunnel debuts in snowtech this fall (october issue ) ill get plenty of pics of the build process..
arctic-cat-kid
sounds like a fun project good luck with that and this is WAY off topic lol but when you hold your throttle wide open like in body or on hard packed does your front pop and cat walk ???? lol sorry just wondering
DonoBBD
I know with my 600 I can lean back and give it a brap and up it will come....as long as I am under 50mph.
brokenbones
bare bones!! just waiting for the tunnel to arive.
DonoBBD
Very nice......now get the buffing wheel out. I picked up a zoop seal kit and the polish is very nice and easy to use on parts like that. It will bring it up like a mirror.
brokenbones
I have been curious about the fabcraft composite wheels. finally picked up a set. they are super light and beefier then stock. Mike at fabcraft was super to deal with. looking forward to giving them a whirl.
NDMtnSledder
Brokenbones is that the new race tunnel were the side tunnel support also makes a mount for the gas rack. I've seen a few pictures on snowest of a new VanAmburg tunnel on a M7 and wondering if its the same one if so thats going to be sweet.
brokenbones
yup thats the one, i got the go ahead today to post some pics, mines not powder coated. :div20:
mk2g60
What about that gas rack??
brokenbones
here are some more updates.. gotta remove the rear cross bar for the 5'er.
jordan123

Sounds good,, usually when I ask about off-trail riding in maine its like a dont ask dont tell type thing. The only place ive really explored is around bosebuck camps. I'd love to be able to justify a iq 600 rmk for my next sled...........

Anyways,, its cool to see someone putting a sled together in maine that I would expect to read about on snowest
NDMtnSledder
I love that tunnel. I want to find a crashed M series this winter or next summer and start with that tunnel on it. I'd love to see some dry weights of a M7153 with that tunnel, boss seat, and lexan hood.
brokenbones
here is a couple pics of the progress.

I know Bosebuck camps well.... that place is out there..... NICE area..... VERY nice. :div20:

Try Coburn Mtn and Bald Mtn in the Jackman area..... when the snow is deep and fluffy..... not much can make it up there except a Mtn sled...... after it's packed and pounded it's passable....
denny
It is don't ask don't tell but if you show the commitment to drive your truck into the back country most guys will be happy to show you what they know. I think maybe mk2g60 is the only guy I know that doesn't care one bit weather he is out there alone or with a few friends The rest of us like a little company when we get stuck. After riding with Mk2g60 and brokenbones they have made me really think about getting a mtn sled next I can tell ya that
DonoBBD
I love the M sleds never will I get a heavy low to the ground trail sled.....Never.
bluebear
bones, just thinking about my project for next summer, what does a tunnel like that cost if you don't mind?
mk2g60
Alot of $$$$, which is nothing compaired to all the labor.

It's funny you'd say that...... I was going to mention the labor.... MEGA hours....... :augen41:
Looks great though...... :div20:
bluebear
I realize labor is the biggy but thats not an issue, just wanting to know what the tunnels run.

Thanks.
mk2g60
You may not think the labor is a big deal but mike's tunnels don't exactly match right up to the bulkhead. They also come bare so you have to cut out the mounts for the DD & suspension mounts. You'll need a tig welder & air nibbler on hand. Don't get me wrong they are the nicest tunnels out there just a ton of work.
Price wise I forget exactly what he's charging for them, $1500-$1600? + shipping which is killer.
brokenbones
ahh finally got my computer back up and running. yup eric is right the tunnels can get pricey. there is some mods that have to be done to the bulkhead and the foot wells. what was the most difficult was adding the parimeter cooling wich is not present on the M's but is on the FC's had to do some fab work there.. My M with the exception of mike vanamburg's M are the only ones he has done (he has done more by now im sure ), so kind of still in the experimental phase. ill try and up some more pics by the end of this weekend. trying to get everything powdercoated for the install.
brokenbones
still moving forward!
DonoBBD
Nice.....is that a tanker seat?

DonoBBD
Me ether......I have one on the way and will let you know. I bet it is just a tank you dump in.

I LOVE THE TALK OF COBURN MOUNTAIN who were the dudes talkin about them, ZR800 and mgk? My uncle has a camp in the forks and i bet i went up Coburn atleast 5 times. I got to the summit twice. During March when we got the big snowfall I tried to make it up with the 04 F6 and she couldnt do it. So now i got the crossfire and i want to go up the side trail that many do not make it. Its straight up! I hope winter comes knocking early this year!!!

Yes that would be me....... LOVE that MTN...... it was VERY do-able the day we went.... a friend on a ZL 600 made it up the steep slope...... I HOPE to take the Jeep up there within a few weeks... think the road is passable with a vehicle???

Here's a couple of pics.....
I bet you really enjoy that Cross-fire.... nice sled. :div20:
CrossRev
Jeff you would definately would be able to make it up that trail. I was there on my wheeler and as i was there a brand new toyota 4runner came up the trail and headed for the coburn mtn trail. I had tried to go up the trail with my wheeler until i saw the NO ATV signs and decided the fine wouldn't be worth it seeing where i can just go up the mountain in a few months on sled. Nice M :div20: arent you trying to sell it? why would you sell it? Have fun with the jeep! If a stock 4runner can make it i would hope that ole jeep would make it. Heres my wheeler after going from the forks to jackman and back---76 miles!! thats a lot for a wheeler, not a sled.
