I heard the other day that there is not going to be any grass drags in Marilla this year. Does anyone else know about this??

The PRO santioning body moved the event to Seneca Falls and took the NYS Championship name too! I heard Marilla is done for good.

I heard that they(I assume the firemen whose property it was on)were making very little money back for all their time and money invested. On the upside,Seneca Falls has a heck of a track and should only be better after their improvements.Just watch the cops in town after the races. They watch traffic very closely. Also I hear Fenwick is done also.

It was originally run by the Colden Trail riders, who at some point lost enough club interest to run the event, then a small group of individuals continued the event after a 1 year lul. This group ran it up until last year when the Colden Trail Riders purchased the event back from the individuals, now they are struggling with vonunteers and also the upfront money to make this go. If the weather turns sour for an event like this, many times it is a money loser, and many of the clubs here in Erie County are struggling financially because Erie County is sitting on our trail fund money for this past year.

We are giving up our annual "Rumble by the River" grass drag event. The turn out has been disappointing the last couple years, and the weather last year was perfect. Yeah, there were a few events that day, but all quite a ways away. I think grass dragging is dying.
I hear what you say about help and profit. It's tough to do all the prep work with 2-3 people. Race day is usually OK, but its a lot of work. Last year, we made less than a $1000, sucked. This year will be doing a snowmobile show with the dealers and a car cruise in. Should be WAY more fun! Probably make nearly the same money for a 1/4 of the work.
Sno-Twister- How come your county is setting on the money?

Polarisboy,
Erie County has always been extremely slow in getting us our money. They have liked to sit on it to collect the interest before finally giving it up. But this year our County Executive has really F#@$ed things up in the entire County, and our County Legislators aren't much better. There are conflicting reports, but they are siting on an $80-130 MILLION dollar deficit. So any money they get is extremely difficult to get out of them, even though it technically is not theres to keep, and all they need to do is pass it thru. Some of the clubs have had members loan them the money to be able to continue operations at the present time. The sad part is that even when we will finally get the money, it is still not enough for us to provide the trails like the public out here would like. My club is looking into a newer groomer, but is waiting to see what happens with our money that we have not received yet, we are set to get back somewhere around $20,000. This may seem like a lot, but when you figure the cost of a late 90's groomer is in excess of $60,000 without a drag, add another $12,000 for a new drag and you see what I mean about finances. Then somewhere with what is left you have to be able to pay for the diesel fuel, and signs and stakes and culverts,...etc, etc, etc. Then you have a payment hanging over you for 5 years, so you can start all over again when that one is payed off. Mind you my club has always been able to a fine job with our trails for the volunteer force we have, but it is nearly impossible to move forward to obtain better equipment, and have someplace to store it also, we are also trying to find someplace to purchase land and put up a building to protect our investments. Sorry about the rant... but I'm sure it is not that different than that of many of the other clubs accross the state.

Before last season, did you's get miles or trade miles with Cherry Creek?
You's come into the East side of F'ville, Trail #4 .....???....right?

Last season we took over roughly 7 miles of trail from the Cherry Creek Club. It is the trail you are refering to but it is trail C1B. We picked up from the West side of Perrysburg, basically all the way to F'ville, but stop just short of going into town. We also added a secondary trail heading due west out of Cottage that intersects from our trail C4, north of South Dayton, to Cherry Creeks C1A between Cherry Creek and F'ville. We also maintain C4 thru South Dayton to the County line, and many times have groomed all the way to 83 by the Cherry Creek School. The new trail to F'ville, C1B, was alomost impassible when we took it over, we still need to address a few things on it, but a little each year to improve it. The guys down there groom that to whole section south of Gowanda for us beautifully. Your old John Deere keeps it up real nice. Although we had had to put about $3000 in it over the past 2 seasons, but it is still cheaper than buying a new one.

it would be GREAT if we could assemble a list of all the places in NY where we know grass drags will be held and what time.
Should we start a new thread on it? I could host the webpage on my website that we could all use for reference if neccessary.
I find that alot of guys always ask "when are the next drags??and where" and nobody ever knows.. But, if we could assemble some sort of list that would be kick ass. I know right now ya got to check alot of different club sites to find out anything. And that takes a ton of time and you need to know alot of names. And then your still the only one that knows. I think that if we do this, we could help out the turn out on these events.
