I have a 1980 Kawasaki drifter 440. Its a free air.

Today, we were messing with it and pulled the exhaust. It seemed to run fine and sounded like it had more throttle repsonse (up on jacks)

Ive always heard that 2 strokes need backpressure. But this seemed to run fine. With the right jetting would it be possible to run it like this and get more power out of it.

It sounded awesome and would love to keep the sound. But dont want to sacrifice power.

What if I made a little expansion champer, or hollowed out the stock pipe?
