I want a new digital camer at least 3 megapixels, prefferably more. Adjustable shutter speed, ability to shut off flash whenever i want, and quick time in-between photos. I would also like if it had a quick focus time and is easy to use.

3mp is really overkill unless you are going to do posters. I have 6 digital cameras and my favorite for recreation, and carrying around for work is my Olympus D-390. It is 2mp.
Bonus with this camera with a 128mb card you can shoot 60sec. jpeg video.
That is really handy.
I will never buy another Kodak, the 2 I had were very slow recovering from a flash or storing a new picture.
The other reason that I like it is it can use plain old AA alkaline batteries or purchase a couple of sets of rechargeable nh-mh batteries and shoot for a week.

The other thing is the 2 AA batteries lasts a long time outdoors with the flash off.
And it is very compact.

I am into photography, I heavily crop and resize photos. I currently use my fathers 3.2 megapixel camera and find that it is oretty good, I occasionally feel i need a bit more than that.

I have up to $200 maybe more to spend on it.

I need at least 3 mp, I crop a lot and do lots of editing. I am really getting into photography right now.

The urgency of buying the camera has went down for now, i found my parents older Minolta Gx7 camera, it was 550+ for them in teh 80s and has a few interchagneable lenses. I just need to figure out how to use it and what all the levers and switches do.

I really like my canon a520, 4mp, 4x optical zoom, it takes 2 AA batteries. $276 at walmart

I like my Canon A510. 3mp. 4x zoom lens, Less than $175.

Pro's: Manual and auto controls, histogram, excellent pictures, excellent battery life, good size LCD.

Con's: Slow between shots when using flash. Bad Red Eye problems with flash. (My wifes Nikon 3200 doesn't have Red Eye problems near as bad.)

It's not all about the size or type of the sensor CMOS/CCD. For the average Joe who wants to print out a normal 8x10 on his HP/Lexmark/Canon/Epson..... 3-4 MP is perfect and you do not need to purchase a 1gig media card 256 - 512 is perfect. You really need to ask yourself what you want to do with the camera. Do you want to pull it out on the golf course/boat/party... and snap a fast candid shot or setup the tri-pod for a perfect shot of whatever it is your shooting. I have to go finish a brake job so here is the quick and simple.

8MP better have a WICKED expensive lens or your tossing your money out the window. The normal glass in most of our consumer cameras is only good for about 4MP after that it can't focus to put light on the single elements of a higher density image sensor. Living in Rochester the "Image capitol" of the world I have friends who are some of the finest photographs in the world (no kidding their work spans the globe and every Colorama in NYC Google Neil Montanus, he was my next door neighbor for 25 years and Kodak’s top photographer, he now test digital cameras: loves Canon). This is right from their mouths. The bigger the lens the better the light will be on your sensor and the lower the gain will need to be to get the shot you want (less grain). The small cameras with tiny lenses are awesome for the quick shot at a party or while fishing but for good work you need a big lens. Figure out what you want to do and then, spend your money wisely.

I have a Canon Digital Elph S-100 with underwater housing (sweet and fast, 2.1MP if I remember)

Canon G3 4MP with a very big lens it's one awesome camera but, slow and big and cumbersome.

Video is an ORIGINAL Elura with optical image stabilization and all the bells and whistles. One SWEET DV Camera.

PS: you want to find a camera you can turn the flash on with not off. They will all let you turn them off but when the sun is behind our you need a bit more light you always need manual mode for more. Look for one that lets you turn the flash on!!
