i dont know yet either going to mod the one i got or save my $ over the summer doing hvac wich pays pretty well and buy a used one. I am cosiddering putting a wildcat 700 motor in it . I would like an 800 or 900 in there dont know if it would fit but i will make it if it doesnt.

Looks like a good project. Call this place,
Harlan's, when I was there last, they had ZR1 chassis (your style) with 500 and 600 motors in it, so I am guessing he would help you out with getting a larger motor in it. He would also sell you the larger motor too.

You can make anything fit if you want it to. You could probably drop a T-Cat motor in just by picking up the right motor mounts. You could probably get a newer sled with the motor and track you want for the same, or less money than building your own. Be prepared to open your wallet wide once you get started.

I dont know about that you can get a used 144-2-15 for 250$ then if you look closely in the pics i have got a wildcat 700 on the trailer next to my sled. I dont know where you buy your sleds but around here you cant get much for like 2000$

a 700 would fit in there with no problems and still keep your cost down some what

there is a guy on sno west that did up his old 94 zr700 for the mountians and he said it rips. He said it didnt cost too much money either to hop it all up. Its looks pretty cool after he got it completed. I think he gose by the name beels. Might want to look over there for some more ideas.

was your tunnel origianly powder coated black? if so what methods did you use to polish your tunnel?
gsxkid
Jun 30 2005, 03:14 PM
I got them from slp. SlP calls them comfort bars we will see how comfortable they really are when the snow falls. Is big bars a bad thing they seemed awsome the way they are to me feels prety comfortable .
jordan123
Jun 30 2005, 03:16 PM
no no i never said it was a bad thing. im just use to my moose bars, they arent as high of a rise. i think the sled looks awesome! "If you made that thing all black i would drool. any instructions on the tunnel polishing?

Jun 30 2005, 03:19 PM
you should get some plastic skis too, then paint the hood black :div20:
gsxkid
Jun 30 2005, 03:23 PM
Yes it was powdercoated black to begin with. What i used to take off the paint was Aircraft paint remover i got it at walmart you spray it on like your painting it and in like 5 mins the paint starts bubbleing off then i just scraped the paint off with a putty knife. You dont really need to use one the paint wipes off with a rag but there are some spots where the paint sticks better. Then i just did what everyone does with the sandpaper . I started with I belive 350 then i went to 600 then 1000 then i used mothers aluminum polish. It looks alot more shiny in person you can see your self in it .
jordan123
Jun 30 2005, 03:28 PM
alright i got a few more questions. did you just polish what you could with the tunnel attached, or did you fully remove it. because i would most likely just be doing the sides and under the seat. i dont really wanna remove the tank at all. and will this paint remover hurt the belly pan or the tank plastic if it gets on it?
gsxkid
Jun 30 2005, 03:32 PM
Well orginally it was black with like purple and orange decals and i painted it that green color but i have decided that the all black and polished looks alot better so i will be painting in black soon. I am working on a diamond plate skid plate will post pics when im done.
gsxkid
Jun 30 2005, 03:37 PM
I am not 100% sure if it will harm plastic. I also did what you are talking about except i did do under my tank i couldnt see taking off the whole tunnel polishing it and putting it back on.So i just did the running boards under the seat and under my tank i will read the can and tell you what it says about plastic just hold on for like 10 mins
gsxkid
Jun 30 2005, 03:47 PM
Yeah it says not to spray on plastic so i wouldnt get it on my tank if i were you. Just dont spray it on your tank or better yet take it off its not hard to remove.
jordan123
Jun 30 2005, 03:53 PM
alright well ill remove it i spose or else just cover it up? how hard was it to do the foot wells?
gsxkid
Jun 30 2005, 04:15 PM
For me that was the hardest part it just takes time and alot of that paint striper good luck though post some pics when your done . Its worth the time and effort you will see when your done. :beerchug:
jordan123
Jun 30 2005, 04:22 PM
alright very sorry but i got just one more question. did you take off the belly pan or no because wouldnt the paint stripper go threw the holes and hit the belly pan?
gsxkid
Jun 30 2005, 04:38 PM
NO i didnt take it off but it looks fine so i guess it didnt hurt it. Maybe you could look for another type of paint striper that is safe on plastic try looking in auto parts stores they carry alot of different paint strippers
gsxkid
Jun 30 2005, 04:44 PM
Are you going to do the part of the tunnel under the hood to or just skip it?
jordan123
Jun 30 2005, 05:49 PM
no i dont plan on it, theres no much there thats worth my time doing. im just ganna do what you can visualy see from looking at the sled. im petty sure as of right now that im not even ganna take off the tank. i just finished putting this sled back together so im not to into taking it apart again.
also whats involved in taking a seat off, is there bolts that go through the tunnel way in the front cause if i cant get to them without taking my skid out im just ganna say f-it. i looked at parts diagrams from browns but couldnt really figure out where all the bolts were.
gsxkid
Jun 30 2005, 07:05 PM
My seat and tank are one piece and i believe there are only 2 bolts holding it on. The gas tank slides under the part of the frame then there are 2 bolts in the little storage compartment in the back of the seat. You can get a socket on them from under the tunnel and just hold them in the compartment . There was no need for me to remove my skid. I believe thats it someone correct me if im wrong your sled might be different though because its a 98
jordan123
Jun 30 2005, 09:17 PM
alright i think that is pretty much correct. in the diagram though it looks as if it just slides and connects to the tank or the whole unit comes off, if its that easy to get the tank off then hell ill just do it.

Jul 1 2005, 05:12 AM
The seat and tank are all in one, just a couple bolts takes it off. Bolts are in the rear compartment, none up front.

i stripped my tunnel today, i used paint stripper that you apply with a brush it ate the paint away in like 45 seconds it was nuts, burn the hands too  my tunnel is already really shiny so all i should have to do is put some mothers polish on it, what was the reason everyone sands them? OH and the foot wells were a B*TCH!

its the same way with anything. try ollying with a long framed bike, harder then hell. try riding wheelie on a quad with an extended swingarm. its just the way it it. with a longer track its ganna be heavier and take longer for the track to get off the jump. i prob wouldnt do anything more then a 136.

136 sounds about right. Ask around, i have seen a few guys with 136es on. Ive heard that there awsome in the powder and good on the trails.
