The State of Michigan has once again targeted Newberry, Michigan with an economic Tsunami ! In the early 1990's that area was hit hard from a closure if the states mental facility . Job losses , and economic devastation hit the community hard. Then the State of Michigan came back to help the support of the community with a Correctional facility in 1995. With the Community finally rebounding, the State of Michigan has now delivered its second and maybe TKO punch to the region with a targeted closure of the Newberry Correctional Facility !

Sounds like another plan our governor has put together, she is also closing a facility in Lake County Baldwin area in the LP. This is the poorest county in Michigan and 600 jobs will be lost, about 30% of the work force.

Is it true the state is backing out of the permanent license plates for trailers? Another idea she dreamed up, she may be well educated but lacks common sense.

I have to believe it should be less expense to house these criminals then what it is. I don’t believe you should have rights and all the comforts of home at the tax payer’s expense.

A little boy in my daughters 1st grade class, his dad just got transfered up there around December last year and they sold their house along with his parent sold their house to move up there with them. Gentleman and well deserved and respected Americans and Michiganders, there is a reason women should not be allowed into our countries political realm. Its called FEELINGS. and that is it in a nutshell. You CANNOT lead an American governed body with any feelings. Its all about what is right for the state and its people, not the damn budget and the thing you want to add into it for your cronnies. We all have gone into debt at sometime but for good reason. Moving to a new job, getting that work vehicle that will pay the bills and pay for itself in due time. I am not saying all women CANNOT be a good leader but 99.9% of them CAN'T . And history has proven this. You don't lead your country from todays polls, you lead for what it right and what has worked and what the FOUNDERS wanted.!!!!! Remamber this is why WE are here because of them. As far as Newberry is concerned and sledders alot of rules and tickets have been handed down to sleders in the past 3 years that I have been there, at a time last year when I really needed some assistance for an emergency situatution I was shunned for the 4th and final time. I no longer visit the area as the UP is far to big and beautiful. However when help is needed for an American comunity......we Americans need to stick together at all costs and differences and support each other. Jobs up there are twice as valuable as they are down here. You can't survive up there like we "just make it along " down in the lower. Spread the news and fire it up, we need to shit can this CUNT and her promises to Quami the destroyer of Detroit. Michigan is one huge strong state but its people let its leaders act like a bunch of fucks..........

Was up in Newberry last week on vacation and saw the info on the prison. My first reaction would be would it not be cheaper to have the prisons downstate where most of the criminals are? (Like near Detroit). Don't we spend lots of money giving rides up there to our convicts. I'm sure those are good state of Michigan jobs, and feel for the locals. But when the money is tight no department should be spared the budget axe. IMO

I seen on the news the other day they are talking about letting prisoners out all over the U.S because of over crowding!! Thats crazy, why would they need to close any then?? You would think they would need more prisons and that would also lead to more jobs. I hope the one in the U.P dont close it would mess up alot up there, i went orving up there during the 4th of July and seen a few restraunts that were good for breakfast, was closed, i cant remember the name of it(off m-28 ), but it was the one that had the awnings like Daily's or the Sonic, they are red awnings if you have seen it before. We go to bigger Bar restraunts at night, but that one was great for a good big breakfast and coffee. :banghead:

I'm not seeing the link between some prison guard jobs and snowmobiling in the U.P. I would suspect it might in fact be an inverse relationship. Less jobs means less urban sprawl and less presure on trails do to building and other development.
