i was outside bored today so i decided to take the cover of my gf's 99 xc 700 with almost 4,000 miles. mag side cylinder has antifreeze in it , gaskets look good though. both cylinders are in great shape , but i can move both pistons in the cylinders a little bit back and forth ! ......is it time for new pistons and rings , or is this normal? maybee 1-2 mm tops ......thanks for the input

back and forth , how? If you can rock the pistons back n'forth 1-2mm in the cylinders , that sounds very much.

well maybee not 1-2 mm , but it isn't tight in there , i can move them some side to side , is this normal ? i got some pics just bear with me

The tolerance from cylinder to piston for ur 700 is 8 thousands of an inch.If ur sled has 4000 miles on it ur tolerance will probably be about 12 thou. which is acceptable, but I would definetly freshen up the top end now that u see antifreeze in ur cylinder.Good luck. :div20:

yeah i am not worried at all , i measured it and the cylinders are in great shape and in spec! , i put in new gaskets all around and closed it back up, did a compression check and it was dead on ! thanks anyways guys !

ps....i didn't think there was anything wrong with this sled seeing as i had no problem hitting 104 with it last year , i was just bored and needed something to do so i tore it apart
